As The Woolmark Company's North American Development Center, we’re thrilled to announce the completion of our new educational display. Each element of the display is designed to showcase the unique properties and processes behind wool production. From raw wool to yarn, you'll learn every step of the journey. Earlier this year, we launched our pilot project in collaboration with the Woolmark team and the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI), integrating wool fibers for software validation in the redesign of the LACI Amphitheater. Using wool fibers for software validation, we redesigned the LACI Amphitheater, showcasing how textiles, technology, and architecture come together. Our shared focus on sustainability with Woolmark drives innovation. By leveraging LOOP and integrating wool, we can reshape the future of fashion, footwear, and more.

AMAZING FOOTWEARISE SIDE PROGRAM JUST LAUNCHED! As I said before, Footwearise is now becoming a full innovation festival! After the main event on December 2 and 3, we will have an exciting side program with workshops, demos and company visits, celebrating the fact that Barcelona is a real hub for new technology. On Wednesday, December 4, you will first get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a tour of the technical workspace of Sagrada Familia where the architects are using generative design and the latest 3D printing technologies to help calculate and visualize Gaudi´s designs for the iconic church that is now in its final stage of construction. This space is not open to the general public, but we are invited to visit with a select group. Then we will have a live demo of the LOOP knitting software by VARIANT3D at our own Footwearology lab. Not only will Variant´s team demonstrate how to create a knitted footwear upper in full 3D in no time at all, we will also be knitting it on the spot with our STOLL by KARL MAYER ADF machine. After that, we walk over to the spectacular print farm of LAMÁQUINA, where large scale pellet printers and huge robots arms are 3D printing the most jaw-dropping store interiors and furniture. This is yet another space that is not open to everyone. You can now register for the different parts of the side program on our event website: https://lnkd.in/dRNPsQ2k. These demos and excursions are only open for people who also participate in the main Footwearise event on December 2 and 3. You can also buy your tickets for that on the same page. As you will see we also have a ton of new speakers, but more about that later.... We look forward to seeing you all in Barcelona this December!

The American footwear industry convened in Los Angeles’ Fashion District this week to flesh out a future for the sector’s domestic supply chain. A meeting held at the factory of advanced 3D knit footwear producer KX Lab brought together members of the U.S. Footwear Manufacturing Association (USFMA) and a collective of manufacturers, brands and suppliers looking for connection, inspiration and information about how their varied expertise might be leveraged to form a nationwide value chain for shoe production. USFMA is looking to mobilize players across the country—from the storied New England shoe community that once represented the epicenter of U.S. footwear manufacturing to the Carolinas, claimed long ago by the country’s yarn and fiber producers and fabric mills, to L.A., the country’s current fashion production capitol—in order to engage these disparate groups in reclaiming an industry that fled, decades ago, to offshore sourcing locales. #usfma #footwear #sourcing #losangeles #onshoring #nearshoring #americanmanufacturing #madeintheusa COMUNITYmade, INC, Lalaland Production & Design, KX Inc., VARIANT3D, United States Footwear Manufacturers Association (USFMA)

One in three people say that they rarely or never check fabric composition when making a purchase. We’re on a mission to educate consumers on the impact of their fabric choices. Through our latest campaign, we remind citizens that every synthetic garment ever made still exists in some form, haunting our beautiful planet. Wool, on the other hand, is natural, renewable, biodegradable, and proudly holds the title of the world’s most recycled apparel fibre. And whilst there’s no silver bullet to tackling fashion’s impact crisis, our commitment to empower consumers to make more informed choices remains a key part of the solution. Help us to drive change by supporting the Filter by Fabric initiative, a pledge to demand brands adopt accurate fabric descriptions in product names and introduce fabric filters on e-commerce sites to allow consumer to choose natural fibres. Garrett Gerson was deeply immersed in the fashion industry, running a successful apparel business, when a documentary made him rethink everything. After watching The True Cost, which exposed the harsh realities of the fashion industry's social and environmental impacts, he realized he was contributing to the very problem he had always aimed to avoid. Soon after, he sold his business and began exploring more sustainable approaches to clothing production. That journey led to the creation of VARIANT3D, an Unreasonable Company that leverages 3D knitting technology to create textiles on demand, eliminating waste and providing full transparency from fiber to finished product. Since founding Variant 3D, Garrett and his team have pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in textiles. Their patented technology allows companies to design and manufacture products faster than ever before, all while eliminating the inefficiencies of traditional methods. Whether it's custom footwear, complex garments, or even components for the automotive industry, Variant 3D is transforming how things are made—revolutionizing an industry that touches every part of our lives. Most recently, Variant 3D’s LOOP™ software was recognized as a Top 12 Finalist in Fast Company's 2024 World Changing Ideas Awards in the ‘Best World-Changing Idea North America’ category.
