Over the past two decades, cities and states in the U.S. have significantly expanded sustainable building ordinances that focus on benchmarking, audits and retro-commissioning, and building performance standards (BPS). In Verdani's latest article, authors Carli S., Dana Weiss, Kelsey Ceccarelli, Sydney Armitage, and Rimzhim Mazumdar examine how benchmarking, auditing, and BPS are enforced in three key jurisdictions — New York City, Boston, and Denver. To read this piece on BPS from Verdani's team of subject matter experts, follow this link: https://lnkd.in/gszwwzhg.

In an era where climate risk is increasingly central to business strategy, it’s crucial to distinguish between climate risk indicators and actual hazards. Many organizations are grappling with questions about the data from climate assessments, including what to do with these assessments, differentiating climate risk versus a hazard indication, and evaluating data accuracy and how to interpret it. During a recent panel at the IMN Conference, our own Dana Weiss, Senior Director of ESG and Head of Resilience, explored just this, including how physical and transition risks, and the evolving standards from SEC, TCFD, and IFRS, are impacting insurance and resilience.  The team at Verdani excels in helping clients navigate potential vulnerabilities within their portfolios, offering strategic advice on how to effectively mitigate or adapt to climate risks wherever possible. A few solutions Verdani employs to help understand and address risk through resilience include:  - Conducting asset-level resilience assessments to uncover asset vulnerability and preparedness.  - Guiding clients through regulatory and disclosure requirements.  - Navigating the climate risk assessment vendor landscape and selecting appropriate providers.  - Developing decarbonization roadmaps and identifying transition risks. Happy Women’s Equality Day! Today commemorates the anniversary of women in the U.S. gaining the right to vote 104 years ago. While there has been immense progress toward equality since 1920, there is still work to do in closing the gender pay gap and removing barriers to voting many people, particularly people of color, face in parts of the country.   As a proudly women-led and certified Women- and Minority-Owned Business, Verdani acknowledges the contributions of women within and beyond our industry. With the federal elections approaching on November 5th, we encourage you to exercise your right to vote!

Did you know there are cost implications, from climate change, on insurance costs? According to a recent article published by Deloitte, by 2030, the cost premium of being in a higher-risk, extreme weather state could be 24.0% greater than the national average - compared to a 32.5% discount in lower-risk states.
