Our Disaster Assistance Response Team has been hard at work in the aftermath of #HurricaneBeryl. To date, our teams have set up one reverse osmosis treatment system in Grenada, providing World Central Kitchen's operations with safe water. On Union Island in Saint Vincent, our teams have set up solar-powered pumping distribution points at the island’s only two boreholes, repaired and brought three community and hospital rain catchment systems back online, and have started water trucking to residents around the island.

Water has the power to give life, but also take it away. 3.6 billion people around the world lack access to adequate sanitation, which leads to illness and death. This is why we developed the Healthy Latrine—to improve health and restore dignity. Give the gift of hygiene and sanitation today at watermission.org

In the arid Turkana region of Kenya, there is a desperate need for safe water among the refugee population in the area. Women and girls walk for hours to find a running tap, or they attempt to collect dirty water from the seasonal river. Unless it has recently rained, they must dig into the sand of the dry riverbed to reach any water. Fortunately, thanks to supporters like you, Water Mission is bringing relief to this community. With God's provision, safe water will soon be flowing in Turkana for residents like Safi. Water Mission is proud to support the implementation of the REAL-Water Water Quality and #AssuranceFund project in Kenya.
The Water Quality #AssuranceFund bridges the urban-rural divide and enables established urban laboratories to provide water quality testing services to rural water systems. It makes monitoring rural water systems more attractive to urban water quality laboratories. #REALWater is evaluating this model in Kenya to promote water quality testing in rural areas. Here is a detailed factsheet about the project in Kenya: https://lnkd.in/erfRR7C8 #REALWater | USAID Global Waters | Conrad N. Hilton Foundation | The Helmsley Charitable Trust | Water Mission

As a member of the REAL-Water consortium Water Mission's team in Uganda supported the REAL-Water team in researching the viability of the WQAF in Uganda. This included scoping systems, assessing eligibility and exploring potential collaboration with regional laboratories. Read the blog post below find out more about this #waterquality research project. #safewater
🇺🇬 How Do We Enhance Water Safety in Uganda? Progress: The #AssuranceFund’s successful implementation in Ghana prompted the #REALWater team to extend research assessments of its viability to Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. The challenge: Finding qualified labs for water testing in rural areas. Ideally, labs should be within a 2-hour drive to ensure same-day sample delivery. However, in Eastern Uganda, the closest options are either the National lab in Kampala (6-7 hours away) or government labs in Mbale (still 5-6 hours). These long distances make testing costly and could compromise water sample quality. The solution: The REAL-Water team partnered with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation, Uganda’s urban water utility, and visited the proposed project area to understand better what would be required to offer testing from a nearby lab.
