I recently had the privilege of traveling to Liberia with Ousmane Diagana, Vice President of the The World Bank Group’s Western and Central Africa Region. This trip aimed to strengthen support for private sector development, a key driver of job creation and economic productivity. Our visit came at a critical time as the WBG prepares its new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for Liberia. During our meeting with HE President Joseph Boakai, we emphasized the critical role of private sector-led growth in fostering inclusive development – a crucial factor in the upcoming CPF. A key point of discussion was #Mission300 — an ambitious initiative by The World Bank and African Development Bank Group to bring electricity to 300 million Africans by 2030, unlocking opportunities for businesses and people to grow. We also visited the Mount Coffee hydropower plant, which underscored Liberia’s potential to lead in clean energy production and attract private capital, driving employment and sustainable development. Together, we are committed to empowering the private sector to transform opportunities into jobs and prosperity for Liberia.

My recent visit to #Ghana and #Liberia offered an opportunity to engage with government, private sector, civil society, and communities working towards a more prosperous future: In Ghana: • I had a productive dialogue with HE President John Dramani Mahama, discussing his vision for Ghana. I reaffirmed The World Bank Group’s commitment to supporting the country's development journey. • I met with local authorities to strengthen our partnership on people-centered programs. • Visiting the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial offered a firsthand glimpse into the preservation of Ghana’s rich history and culture. The World Bank’s support for its restoration is something to be proud of. • Engaging with civil society and thought leaders focused on our collaboration in ensuring people's needs are at the forefront of development programs. • It was exciting to see agricultural innovations in Akosombo. Through the International development Association (IDA)-supported West Africa Food Systems Resilience Program, we are making strides toward a more food-secure future. In Liberia, I traveled with Ethiopis Tafara, MIGA’s Vice President & Chief Finance, Risk, Legal, and Sustainability Officer: • We met HE President Joseph Boakai and reaffirmed our commitment to expanding energy access and promoting inclusive growth, particularly through Mission 300, an initiative led by the World Bank Group and African Development Bank Group to connect 300 million people in Africa to electricity by 2030. • Our visit to Mount Coffee hydropower plant underscores Liberia’s potential to be a leader in clean energy. • Visited Afropa Liberia Inc. and learned of its impact on Liberia’s economic growth through its diverse businesses. The support of IFC - International Finance Corporation and IDA is crucial to its success.
