Last week’s rainstorm didn’t disappoint — it brought the first stormwater through our newest swale at Northlake Commons! Seattle Public Utilities opened the diverter, allowing dirty roadway runoff to enter and be filtered of harmful toxins before reaching Lake Union. It’s the fourth and largest swale we’ve worked on so far, and it’s designed to filter 2.6 million gallons of polluted water every year. Seeing the water flow through it for the first time was an incredible experience! 📸 Landscape Architecture Principal, Director of Sustainability Rachael Meyer Clean Lake Union HessCallahanGrey Group #bioswales #stormwater #stormwatermanagement #seattle

How can a vacant lot be used to better serve a community? This was the question posed to students at this year’s NOMA nw Project Pipeline, held at the UW Othello Commons campus. Alyssa M Mitchell, AIA, NOMA, now in her third year as a mentor, shared her reflections on the program: “The Project Pipeline Camp is essential to building up the foundation for the Architects of tomorrow. Being part of this program means so much to me, as I witness firsthand the passion and potential of these students. I hope to continue to see firms and volunteers support this program for years to come.” Check out Alyssa's recent article to read more about her experience. https://lnkd.in/gPxv5J3Q
