A sneak peak of our 37’ long scissor trusses currently being built for a restaurant expansion project in Aruba. WWS designed all trusses, beams and connections, which had to account for hurricane loading. Containers will be loaded at our facility then railed to Seattle for loading on a ship in late March. It’s quite amazing how many hands will be touching this project: from saw mill, to glulam plant, to fabrication shop, to the staining facility, to loading containers, to railing containers, to longshore fishermen loading the boat, and eventually to the jobsite in Aruba. Dinner in Aruba anyone? #glulam #glulamfabrication #masstimbertrusses

Mass Timber Experts. EST 1969. Widely known for our innovative designs, methods & erection of iconic timber structures.
About us
Western Wood Structures, Inc. has been living up to its name for 50 years. Founded in May 1969 by a team of Timber Construction Specialists with many combined years of experience in the sale, design, manufacture, and erection of engineered wood systems. Led by Marshall Turner, they developed an innovative approach to selling and distributing engineered wood products. In contrast to its competitors, WWS chose to wholesale its products and purchase component parts to custom specifications. By promoting technologically advanced engineered wood products, WWS remains an industry leader. Today, we specialize in the design, supply and erection of engineered wood products, including cross laminated timber (CLT), glulam beam floor and roof systems, heavy timber trusses, timber bridges, and domes. We provide a complete service, from your idea on the drawing board to a finished, installed product. Our experienced salespeople will discuss your project, recommending value-engineered designs to best fit your needs. Our engineering department lends support by producing shop drawings and calculations on all orders, utilizing state of the art computer technology. From there, the custom components are ordered, and manufactured to specifications then completely fabricated for assembly. Finally, the material is shipped to the construction site in sequence and erected. Many of our customers rely on our experienced field services department. WWS can act as a sub-contractor to furnish and install the components used in timber domes, bridges, or roof structures. Our field services department is also trained to provide inspection, evaluation and repair of distressed timber trusses and glulam beams. WWS has earned a reputation for providing cost effective wood systems and designs through advanced engineering. Many of our projects require professional engineering services and WWS staff engineers are licensed in 46 states. Visit our website for more information on our iconic projects.

Looking back at our work for the Catholic Schools Of Fairbanks, Alaska: In 2021, the school experienced multiple beam failures due to heavy snowfall. WWS teamed up with Zip-O-Laminators to save the day, creating a new, sturdier roof structure that continues to withstand heavy snow loads and harsh weather. With mass timber beams, Western Wood Structures provided both structural integrity and a striking architectural statement. #masstimberroof #masstimber

The framing for Spanish Peaks Aspire is wrapping up this week in Big Sky, MT. The Trusses pictured are 50’ clear span hybrid trusses. These were prefabricated and preassembled at our automated fabrication shop (@cascadia-structural-timber-solutions). The test fitting was all done offsite allowing the GC (@martel-construction-inc.) to reassemble and install all within a couple days. WWS supplied the entire timber package, including glulam columns and beams, steel and hardware connections, T&G decking, and the above mentioned trusses. Other involved parties: IMEG as the engineer of \record and Lake|Flato Architects, Inc as the architect. #masstimber #masstimberconstruction #trusses

Work continues at Gianforte Hall on the campus of Montana State University-Bozeman, MT. In a span of 1.5 weeks, the weather went from -2 degrees to the high 40s! As the better weather arrived, it required discipline not to rush in slippery, slushy conditions. Despite the weather and conditions, the WWS crew has been able to stay on track regarding the project schedule. We are currently working on the 3rd-floor CLT install.... then onto the roof. #masstimber #masstimberconstruction #winterconstruction #MSU

This Lynnwood Neighborhood Center project in Washington is yet another #MassTimber project by WWS. Fifty 4 1/8” DF 3-ply panels were used with an architectural finish on one side. These pair nicely with the DF #glulam support beams in this two-story building. WWS handled the supply, detailing, fabrication, and shipping to the jobsite, alleviating pressure on the general contractor by loading beams in a set sequence for offloading. The project is currently being installed by GLT Construction, with SSF Structural Engineering as the EOR, and ARC Architects as the architecture firm involved. Projects go well with great partners. No surprise, this was a total team effort. #masstimberconstruction

Kings Chapel Bridge 🌲 Through the years, Western Wood has had the privilege to work with Bridge Builders, an East Coast bridge building company that specializes in pile supported bridges. In certain applications, WWS has provided longer clear-span bridges and bridge covers, much like this covered bridge built in early 2021 in Arrington, TN at the Kings Chapel Development. With a 26’ x 70’ size, this heavy vehicular bridge, with side pedestrian walkway, uses 13 Douglas Fir Glulam stringer beams along with 5 overhead trusses and column sets. Native Southern Yellow Pine was used for the decking and rail systems, which shows the color difference between DF and SYP. Simple yet elegant, this Kings Chapel covered bridge adds ample charm to this magnificent development. #TimberBridges #MassTimberConstruction

The Redmond Library for Deschutes Public Library in Redmond, OR. This 40,000 sqft Mass Timber building was completed in January, and will be a haven for generations to come. Like usual, this was a team effort. From the shop drawing/design team ensuring beams rightfully sized and connections are accurately located, to the manufacturing of the beams and connections to necessary tolerances, to the fabricators that are on the hook to drill and cut material per the shop drawings, & to the installers who carefully handle and place the beams - every contributor was important to the success of this project.
