Do you have a mentor? It was noted that 54% of women cardiologists experience imposter syndrome in the workplace as stated in the article, “Women in cardiovascular imaging: a call for action to address ongoing challenges,” published in the European Heart Journal. “Mentors, both men and women, should be aware of this [imposter syndrome] issue and take steps to confront it.” Joshi et al explain that in order to fix the roots of imposter syndrome (and burnout, discrimination, and harassment in the workplace), we must not fix the person but instead the system. Academic institutions and governments need to develop targeted initiatives—such as funding, mentoring, and networking—to boost women’s advancement in academia and close the gender gap. 📢 New research highlights a concerning link between the "Superwoman" role and cardiovascular health in Black women. Putting a greater emphasis on caregiving and leaving self-care on the back burner are associated with higher central systolic blood pressure and augmentation index. These factors may contribute to adverse cardiovascular health outcomes. This article from the Journal of the American Heart Association is also a wake-up call for all women of all intersections who experience burnout, excess workloads, and lack of support. 📝Central Hemodynamics in Black Women: Examining the Role of Superwoman Schema Endorsement: https://lnkd.in/dF_4DPfs #HealthEquity #CardiovascularHealth #SelfCare #BlackWomen #Wellness

📢 Calling all women cardiologists. Over the last two decades, not much has changed in regard to the contributions of women in cardiovascular literature. The percentage of women authors of “cardiac and cardiovascular systems” journals increased from 16.6% to 24.6%. A rate of change that would take over 60 years to see equal representation. The data show that women are more likely to mentor women first authors and lead diverse research teams, therefore, we encourage all authors of cardiovascular literature to diversify their author groups and to reconsider who gets the first and last author slot. At Women As One, we are dedicated to supporting women cardiologists through grants, networking opportunities, and professional development programs.
