We recently spoke to some of our Women As One members about their experiences as women in cardiology. When asked what advice they would give those following in their footsteps, here's what they said: 1. Be resilient. 2. Don’t expect it to be easy, but don’t bear it alone. 3. Find a mentor. 4. Make change where you are; don’t wait for it to come. What advice would you give to a younger #WomanInCardiology? Join our global network of #WomenCardiologists. A study by researchers at the University of Toronto found that sex diversity on surgical teams improves patient outcomes. Researchers analyzed over 700,000 operations that took place between 2009 and 2019. Here are key takeaways: 🔹 Hospitals with teams that had 35% or more female surgeons or anesthesiologists had better post-operative outcomes, with a 3% reduction in 90-day morbidity 🔹 Care by a female surgeon increased the association between higher team sex diversity and better outcomes 🔹 Diversity on a surgical team should be viewed as an asset, not as a chance to compare male and female surgeons Women As One is committed to contributing to increasing sex diversity in all areas of medicine. Discover how we help industry leaders like you find top women physicians when you contact us today. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dRyUh54r Data Source: British Journal of Surgery, 2024 #SexDiversity #PatientOutcomes #WomenInMedicine #GenderEquity BJS Academy

When it comes to women’s representation in cardiology in 2024, there’s both cause for celebration and a need for immediate action. The good news → Researchers found a statistically significant increase in women’s representation in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology Subspecialties. The bad news → Women remain the most underrepresented in cardiology compared to other internal medicine specialties, and no increase has been made in electrophysiology or Heart Failure. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women, yet women remain undereducated about their heart health risks and are underrepresented in academic medicine and clinical practice. 📑https://lnkd.in/dmcyt44v Women As One knows more representation of women in cardiology can improve patient health outcomes. That’s why we connect women cardiologists with unique career opportunities.
