Doing business our favorite way, over wine! We had a great time networking at CREW Portland's #CorksCREW event, but Michael kept asking for ice for his pinot noir so we had to intervene after his 3rd round. He'll learn someday. Thank you to Stoller Wine Group for keeping our glasses full! Cheers to another great event and to successful women in wine and in real estate! #CrewPortland #StollerWine #portlandarchitects #aec #woodblock #portlandarchitecture #womeninrealestate

We did it! We won the Daily Journal of Commerce Oregon Top Project award for the Brownsville Recreation Center! Please, no autographs. But tell your friends; we make some pretty cool buildings. Couldn't have done it without our award winning friends VLMK Engineering + Design, James E. John Construction Co. Inc., and KCL Engineering! #architecture #djctopprojects #portlandarchitects #aecindustry #aec

Woodblock Architecture, Inc. reposted this
Senior Spec Writer, RDH Building Science, Host of ARCAT "Detailed" Podcast - Improving Construction Project Collaboration with Specifications - Mentor and Teacher
In this new episode of the ARCAT #DetailedPodcast, I am joined by Dave Hardister, Principal, and Andra Riegler, RA, LEED AP, Project Manager/Architect from Woodblock Architecture, Inc. in Portland, Oregon. Listen in here: www.arcat.com/podcast We chat about the new I&E Construction Headquarters in Wilsonville, Oregon. The newly renovated headquarters of I&E Construction is a design-build and adaptive reuse project. This 27,000 SF project consisted of a complete gut and remodel of a former nursing school built in the 70’s into a new headquarters for a rapidly growing construction and development company. Woodblock Architecture focused on overhauling the building layout by repurposing a neglected courtyard and incorporating NLT, or nail-laminated timber, throughout the interior. The existing building was comprised of a V-shaped floor plan with two wings flanking an uninviting outdoor courtyard. This courtyard created an opportunity to capture building square footage to create a dynamic lobby as the first impression for visitors. A new 2-story volume was created within the footprint of the former courtyard. This 2-story mass linked the existing wings with an atrium constructed with Nail Laminated Timber (NLT) panels and glu-lam beams. The NLT roof structure informed the interior design including floating wood slat ceilings and wall treatment. The program includes: - Offices - Conference Rooms - An expansive employee lounge - Fitness Space - Training Space - A small warehouse, - Mono-stringer stair; and - 2-story graphics created with perforated metal panels on the I-5 Freeway facing façade. The extremely tight project schedule made for a perfect fit for the design/build project delivery method. A quote from Cory Riedel of I & E Construction: “Woodblock’s creativity and innovation has resulted in a workplace environment our staff and team celebrate and appreciate daily. We are very grateful and proud to have had Woodblock and their design partners be such an integral part of the success and outcome of our new home.
