  • For our Chapter’s 45th anniversary, we are going big and marking the year with 45 distinct initiatives! Our recent collaboration with Men Who Care of Germantown was one of those initiatives. MWCOG is a non-profit community-based organization established to serve and enrich the community in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. The organization strives to enhance the quality of life for those living in the community through outreach.     Chapter President Api Appulingam (PHL), TrYOU Co-Chair Gina Venuto-Gabriella (STV) and mentor Monica Waits (AECOM) shared their career journey and what they do on a day-to-day basis in the aviation, highway and transit industries, respectively. The students also heard about our TrYOU mentoring program and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with MWCOG! #wtsphilly45in45 WTS Philadelphia MEN WHO CARE OF GERMANTOWN INC

  • For Earth Day, WTS Philadelphia TrYOU volunteered with Congreso, a nonprofit organization for predominantly Latino neighborhoods. We facilitated hand-on demonstrations of managing stormwater in more natural ways in cities. Approximately 100 students stopped by to learn about compost filter socks and various porous pavement samples. The students gained an understanding of compost filter socks, and why they are used at construction sites. The students were especially excited to test out a porous pavement sample, which is representative of cover at many city playgrounds! #WomenInTransportation #WeAreWTS

  • TrYOU had the opportunity to hear from Aleta Evans, COO of Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and the WTS Philadelphia 2023 Woman of the Year, at an outreach event with the Free Library of Philadelphia in Roxborough! The students were able to listen to Aletas’s story and learn how she became a trailblazer in the transportation industry. Aleta highlighted the importance of setting tangible goals for the future and always believing in yourself, as with the right mindset and a solid plan, anything is possible. We also had a surprise visit from some very bright second graders, who are looking forward to learning all things STEM and becoming future trailblazers themselves! #STEMOutreach #WeAreWTS
