The XPC Clinic is at the forefront of advancing primary care by combining medicine, technology, and education. The clinic features: 🖥️ Technology Sandbox: A space for startups and developers to build integrations and experiment with workflows. 🛠️ Product Playground: A platform for clinicians and operators to stress-test and explore new solutions. 📚 Education Lab: An environment to adapt EMR as curriculum for educators and students. Last month I hosted a retreat along with Paulius Mui, MD, David M. Nichols, MD, and Gus Roman, MBA/MPH to discuss scaling primary care. Government comes a close second but has many administrative complications. -The employer market is most promising for patient acquisition. -Medical schools may be attracting the wrong people. -Pharmacists have a lot of unrealized potential to participate in primary care. -DPC and/or VBC will be the dominant models for primary care in 20 years.

I'm going to be featuring millennials doing cool stuff because people doing cool work should be supported. So today we're promoting Kenneth Qiu, MD, and here's why: 1️⃣ Who the hell just decides to up and start their own private practice right out of residency? Yeah well, Kenneth does. 2️⃣ Kenneth also takes action: he hung out at the Virginia state capitol for two weeks, testifying and lobbying representatives to support Direct Primary Care. 3️⃣ We share an interest in policy — and he's driven by hating inefficiency in the healthcare system, and more importantly, seeing people being taken advantage of by the system. 4️⃣ The man is ORGANIZED and leading from the front: he's a founder of XPC (the org that invited me to Dallas, bringing stakeholders together to improve primary care in the US); he's the youngest VP of the DPC Alliance, and a featured speaker at its annual convention. Kenneth is intimidating in his action but so approachable and down to earth in his interactions. He's both a force to be reckoned with and a force for good; super well-connected and clearly has an ability to stay laser-focused on his targets that made him choose family medicine over emergency medicine as a specialty. (The latter, myself included — loves a bright shiny obj — SQUIRREL! 🐿️) Give him a follow, send him a DM, find out more about his primary care practice in Virginia. "Is the rise of longevity medicine a response to our secularized society's call for a new form of religion?" ~Michael R. O'Brien, MD Longevity doctors are being asked to profess with near deific confidence and prescribe with omniscient precision. This contrasts sharply with much of what is taught in medical school, where we learn to temper confidence with a buffer of potential error. It also opposes the humility ingrained through years of practice, showing us how even the greatest knowledge cannot solve many illnesses. Last week, I had the pleasure and honor to speak with my fellow primary care physicians of X = Primary Care, wonderfully moderated by Paulius Mui, MD. This community was founded on the belief that primary care is a powerful force with the potential to address many of the issues in our broken healthcare system. Our discussion led to how longevity medicine introduces a paradigm shift that primary care can adopt to fulfill this potential. We had a healthy debate of how far to lean into longevity medicine's attitude of celebrity renown and near religiosity for the betterment of our patients' health. Longevity medicine is not about living forever. It’s about people wanting to regain control over their health and lives. The longevity movement reflects a desire for a kind of doctor and a healthcare system that commands our respect and efforts. So yes, in a way, longevity medicine is new version of authority that resembles what we once called religion.
