On October 10, 2024 The YMCA of Greater Cincinnati 's Youth and Government program had to privilege of learning how to deliver strong opening and closing statements from Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Donte Johnson. Student's participated in a Mock Civil Trial where the Plaintiff Mr. David Jones(student) sued McDonald's (Defendant) for being liable for his excessive weight gain. Mr. Jones's lawyer Mr. Kendell (student), stated that for the past 30 days his client ate 3 meals a day from McDonald's and gained an excessive amount of weight and his health is declining as a result. His client was seeking compensatory damages in the amount of 500,000. McDonald's was represented by Ms.Kennedi (student), Ms.Kennedi asked the jury to find in favor of her client because McDonald's has clearly posted the calorie count for all of the food items and has never advertised to be a healthy food option. She also argued that McDonald's has never encouraged nor recommended any of their customers to consume their food 3x per day. These statements were echoed by McDonald's representative Mr. Jerome(student). Both the Plaintiff and Defendant brought witnesses to the stand, each of them provided compelling testimony. After each lawyer provided closing arguments, the jury (8 students) deliberated for approximately 3 mins and came back with a unanimous verdict of NOT-LIABLE. THIS SESSION WAS AMAZING 👏. JOIN US FOR OUR NEXT SESSION ON: THURSDAY OCTOBER 24, 2024 MUSIC RESOURCE CENTER 3032 WOODBURN AVE CINCINNATI, OHIO 45206 Claire Miller Bruce Wayne Jeffery Jorge Perez
