From 1999-2002, Yonkers revitalized the Williamsburg Bridge, a crucial link between Manhattan and Brooklyn since 1903. With a $215 million budget from the NYCDOT, the project included replacing north roadways, pedestrian footwalks, bikeways, and major structural elements, alongside installing new lighting and drainage systems. The project involved: 🏗 500 tradesmen (peak manpower) 🏗 200-300 ironworkers 🏗 8 crawlers & hydraulic cranes 🏗 Custom deck panel erection equipment An interesting project feat was assembling 25 Pedestrian Bridge spans in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and transporting them via barge across the East River to Manhattan. The combined efforts led to the early completion of the inner and outer roadways, earning Yonkers a $10 million incentive! #YCCthrowback #tbt #WilliamsburgBridge #BridgeConstruction #NYCDOT #Brooklyn #Manhattan #YCC #BuildingQualitySince1945

#YCCProjectUpdate – Our Holland Tunnel Project Team has made significant progress these past few months! The project team recently installed a truss atop the Holland Tunnel Toll Booth building. The building was jacked to engage with the new truss which allowed the removal of the columns underneath on the ground level to have 5 conjunctive lanes of traffic going into the tunnel. The new truss is the main structural support system that helps distribute load throughout the structure. The truss was set on the existing column after they were reinforced along with the reinforcement of the existing footings. In addition, the truss was covered with standing seam panels with the epic bronze color to match the existing plaza colors, so the truss blended with the roof and showed that it had been part of the original building. #HollandTunnel #NYCconstruction #NJconstruction #BuildingQualitySince1945

Travel back to 1945 with us, when Yonkers Contracting first decided to venture outside of Yonkers to West Point, NY. This project involved clearing the United States Military Academy at West Point rifle range and installing oil tanks. Yonkers tackled the challenge of excavating and removing substantial amounts of rock to install reinforced concrete foundations for these oil tanks. Rock excavation was already a familiar task for the company back then and remains so to this day. #FlashBackFriday #yccThrowback #BuildingQualitySince1945 #RockSolidBuilders #excavation

Last week we celebrated Construction Safety Week with this year's focus on "Value Every Voice" (Encourage - Listen - Empower) and Mental Health. Construction is both physically and mentally demanding. As contractors we have the responsibility to acknowledge the challenges our workers face, and create an environment where safety is a priority. Safety Week is a call to action, an opportunity to show each other what it means to be safe and why it’s important to each of us. It was a chance to renew our commitment to each other to create a safe and supported work environment. #constructionsafetyweek2024 #YCC #mentalhealthawareness #safetyfirst

Last Thursday, amidst the chaos of I-95 being shut down in both directions, Governor Ned Lamont swiftly declared a state of emergency. A tanker truck fire caused significant structural damage to an overpass, necessitating its urgent removal. At the request of the Connecticut Department of Transportation, Yonkers Contracting promptly responded and executed the emergency bridge demolition in record time. The northbound lanes were reopened to traffic by Saturday evening, and by Sunday morning, all lanes were operational, with traffic returning to its usual flow. Kudos to the exceptional team whose dedication and expertise made this remarkable turnaround possible! #demolition #CTDOT #teamwork #bridgedemo #CTconstruction

#YCCProjectUpdate – Work at the Gowanus CSO has been underway for the Gowanus Canal Constructors – a JV of Yonkers Contracting and Picone. Located right on the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, NY, an 8-million-gallon Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) facility is being constructed. The goal of this facility is to improve the health of the canal while creating new public spaces and amenities for the Gowanus community. The current phase of the project involves slurry wall construction to create a watertight wall around the perimeter of the excavation. #BuildingQualitySince1945 #Environmental #GowanusCanal #nycconstruction #excavation #slurrywall

Some exciting work being done at the World Trade Center River Water Pump Station project! #YCCprojectupdate #buildingqualitysince1945 #WTC #PANYNJ
Every project has unique challenges which allow for some innovative solutions. On our Sluice Gate Replacement project at the World Trade Center River Water Pump Station we utilized multiple gantry cranes to deal with strict space, floor loading and access restrictions to remove and replace the existing sluice gates located 35 feet below grade.
