🎾 COCO x AMERICAN EAGLE ARE PLAYING DOUBLES Coco Gauff is launching a clothing line at American Eagle. The collection recently launched as part of American Eagle’s fall marketing campaign and the brand is hoping to highlight the impact of Gen Z consumers and female athletes as a significant driving force in marketing. Featuring jeans, denim skirts, tops, and jackets, the collection aligns with the fall and back to school shopping season. Although athletes have been reaching younger audiences through brand partnerships for quite some time, female athletes have recently gained significant influence in inspiring Gen Z through social media (like Ilona Maher among other Olympians) and their entrepreneurial efforts. (Fast Company) 📊 YPulse data: 36% of 13-39-year-olds would buy a product that their favorite athlete promoted -- For more expert-curated Gen Z news: https://hubs.ly/Q02MbQbT0

Context is everything--especially when it comes to generations. Don't take my word for it though. The wise MaryLeigh Bliss sees iPhone's position as Gen Z's top innovative brands as precarious with ChatGPT nipping at its heels. Why? Generational context. "While iPhone is the number one innovative brand for teens ... we really have to think about ChatGPT in the context of the innovation that teens have seen in their lifetime. Teens do not remember a time without iPhone ... so much of the technology that Gen X and Millennials consider to be the biggest innovations of today--those technologies are just norms for Gen Z teens. But they are witnessing the beginning of AI--with ChatGPT as a leader in that space." Catch the full YPulse Gen Z 101 on-demand: https://lnkd.in/gzAmb-MA

FAKERS GONNA FAKE, FAKE, FAKE Young people are worried about AI-generated images—but they’re making their way into election campaigns. Donald Trump recently posted an AI-generated fake endorsement from Taylor Swift, raising eyebrows given his earlier criticism of Kamala Harris for allegedly using AI to generate a crowd at one of her rallies. But according to the co-president of Public Citizen, “there are no federal restrictions on the use of deepfakes in the election.” In order for it to be illegal, an opponent would need to demonstrate that the lie caused harm or injury to voters. So while Trump’s AI-generated “Swifties for Trump” tweet has left many of her young fans angry, it’s technically allowed for now. (The Verge) 📊 YPulse data: 52% of 13-39-year-olds are concerned about misinformation and deepfakes with AI -- For more expert-curated Gen Z news: https://hubs.ly/Q02M3bns0

Antonin Ficatier, editorial director for Western Europe, recently shed light on how Gen Z is transforming the landscape of live sports viewership, particularly in the context of the Olympics in The Current. "It's important to understand that Gen Z loves sports and watching sports, but they're just watching them differently compared to previous generations," he says. Our data reveals that a whopping 84% of 13- to 22-year-olds in North America and Western Europe have watched broadcast sporting events on-screen in the past year. This challenges the notion that younger generations are losing interest in live sports. BTS BUSTED Parents are not happy with back-to-school costs this year. Many parents have taken to TikTok to show their frustrations and share their shopping experiences for the season, with some spending over $1K on school supplies. A recent survey found that 70% of parents believe schools ask them to purchase too many items and 52% feel that their spending will exceed last year’s costs. Last week, we reported that this year’s BTS shopping prices are projected to reach $38.8B, making it the second highest amount ever recorded, following last year at number one. As a result, parents are resorting to saving coupons, shopping later in the season for discounts, or even opening new credit cards to access deals on essential school items. (Motherly) 📊 YPulse data: 72% of parents agree, “I have a strict back to school shopping budget this year” -- For more expert-curated Gen Z news: https://hubs.ly/Q02LYHS-0

Some Friday good news for all of my YouTube friends: YouTubers are *the* most trusted public figures by Gen Z teens and young adults. Per YPulse's recent celebrities and influencers survey, YouTubers are trusted more than TikTokkers, musicians, athletes, and even the police. See how the numbers break down below. SKIBIDI TOILET OHIO RIZZ Parents are struggling to grasp Gen Alpha’s “brainrot” language. It’s no stretch to say a new slang term circulates almost daily on social media, but that’s making it increasingly difficult for parents to comprehend what their kids are actually talking about. Gen Alpha is known for their seemingly random vocabulary (what does “Ohio” mean to them?!), sometimes labeled as cringeworthy by older gens and linked to being “mini Millennials” or “iPad kids.” But some parents have noticed that even their younger children, despite having limited internet access, are using these terms in their everyday speech—often without fully understanding their meanings themselves. (NBC News) 📝 YPulse explained: If brands want to understand conversations online, they need to know these 30 slang definitions (link in comments 👇) -- For more expert-curated Gen Z news: https://hubs.ly/Q02Lz_Kg0

We’ve all certainly felt the energy of Kamala Harris 🥥 — and now America’s new dad Tim Walz — entering the chat, but is it actually having a measurable effect on young people? The answer is unequivocally: YES. To put things in context, President Biden (30%) was a 9 pt underdog even before the disastrous debate, per our Election Report from May. Again, the story here was less about favoring Trump (39%) and really more about widespread ennui and apathy. 24% were undecided and the overwhelming majority of young adult voters (71%) just wanting new candidates period. Well, after they got half their wish granted, we’ve got a dead heat on our hands now. Here's the most recent rundown from YPulse Daily Intelligence: Harris vs. Trump: A Tight Race -- Harris and Trump are tied at 42% each among 18-39-year-olds -- Undecided voters decreased from 25% to 15%, indicating solidifying opinions Gender Divide -- Harris leads among young women -- Trump maintains strong support from young men Diverse Coalition -- Harris has substantial support from voters of color (51% overall) -- LGBTQ+ voters strongly favor Harris (58% overall) Comparison to Biden -- Harris outperforms Biden's previous numbers, especially with women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ voters Read the full story with datapoints below. #genz #election #kamala #youthvote #millennials
