The 2024 ElevateAEC Conference was indeed a spectacular event! This year’s event brought together AEC industry leaders for three days of learning, collaboration, and celebration—against the beautiful backdrop of Tampa Bay. Here's a recap of the key moments: The festivities began with the M&A Next Closing Reception, which flowed seamlessly into the ElevateAEC Welcome Reception. It was the perfect way to kick off the conference, with lively conversations setting the tone for the days ahead. Our president and CEO, Chad Clinehens, officially welcomed everyone Wednesday morning and kicked off the conference theme—Return on Investment! The first keynote, featuring Linda Bauer Darr (American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)), offered a visionary look at where our industry is heading and opened our minds to understanding the motivations of the emerging workforce. Chad Clinehens, Stephen Lucy, and Michael Makris joined Linda on stage to discuss what their firms are doing (and have done) to prepare for 2035. "You may delay, but time will not." Up next, a panel of AEC industry experts, including Tiara Marcus, Aaron Lauinger, Brian J. Sielaff, P.E., S.E., P.Eng., and Justin Smith, shared their strategies for driving ROI by effectively executing organizational initiatives. Goals are ultimately pointless unless you have an engaged team to act on and support them! Lunchtime really "took off" with something special— a showcase of the Engineering Drone Videos of the Year! We got a bird's-eye view of cutting-edge projects, followed by the Top New Venture Award presentation. 🏆 2024 EDVY Winner - McLaren Engineering Group 🏆 2024 Top New Venture - Peritia Partners LLC Day two opened with Mark Zweig guiding an inspiring discussion with Kit Miyamoto, Ph.D., S.E., and Traci Petcoff Wong, PE, on how they grew Miyamoto International globally and the importance of your purpose being felt and understood by everyone and everything you do. (Invest in your firm's marketing!) Next, we explored how to maintain a strong culture during rapid change, with insights from Shelby Harvey, MBA-HR, Don Young,PE,CCM, F.SAME, and Joseph Campos, PE, all leaders of the top 2024 Best Firms To Work For. Lunch featured powerful presentations from the 2024 ElevateHER Cohort on Recruiting and Retention Solutions, highlighting actionable steps you can implement NOW to create a firm rooted in belonging and inclusion. The cohort’s innovative projects offered tangible strategies to build a more substantial, diverse workplace. The grand finale—the highly anticipated Black Tie Awards Gala—was a dazzling celebration, honoring the exceptional achievements and innovation within the AEC industry. Thank you to our inspiring speakers, attendees, and sponsors for making this year’s ElevateAEC Conference and Awards Gala genuinely unforgettable. We can’t wait to see what’s next for the AEC industry and to make this celebration even bigger in San Antonio, TX! #ElevateAEC2024

What an incredible two days at the 2024 M&A Next Symposium! Here's a recap of all the key moments and insights that made this event a must-attend for anyone interested in M&A within the AEC industry: On Monday evening, we kicked off the symposium with George Christodoulo and Peter Grupp (Lawson & Weitzen, LLP) with a fantastic exploration into deal-making evolution in AEC, as they offered insights from their multitudes of experience. Tuesday began with Tracey Eaves (Zweig Group) starting the morning strong with "Valuation, Multiples, and What's Next in M&A," which helped attendees understand the latest trends in valuations, backed with the latest data from Zweig Group's 2024 Valuation and Financial Performance Reports of AEC Firms. Joseph Furey, CPA (President and CEO of Michael Graves , one of the top architecture firms on the 2024 Hot Firm List), delivered a powerful keynote on "Deal Structure and Integration: Capturing the Hearts and Minds in Acquisitions," where he shared his strategies for successful integration post-acquisition. Following Joe's keynote, the roundtable discussions began. These expert-led discussions sparked lively, in-depth conversations, uncovering both the challenges and exciting opportunities shaping the future of M&A. Will Swearingen (Zweig Group) led the lunch learning session on "Getting Your Firm Ready to Buy or Sell," offering practical advice for firms preparing for M&A. Our breakout sessions followed lunch, allowing attendees to choose their agenda based on their preferences. Taylor Dolan (Lee/Shoemaker PLLC) walked us through the "Legal Considerations to Understand as a Seller," highlighting critical legal factors sellers must know. Tracey Eaves, Joe Furey, and Brian Kirkpatrick (Pape-Dawson Engineers, Inc.) tackled the "Latest Trends on EBITDA Multiples and Deal Structures," offering both short- and long-term strategies. Breakout session two offered Rod Finkle's (RTM Engineering Consultants) "Insights from 19 Successful Acquisitions", and Kevin Johns, CPA and Benjamin Smith, CPA/ABV (Wipfli) presented on "Navigating M&A: From Uncertainty to Confidence." For breakout session three, Robert Hughes (Ames & Gough) discussed "Risk Management in M&A," and Stephen Lucy (JQ Engineering LLP now IMEG) delivered an insightful session on "How We Chose Our Partner – Why We Sold and the Unique Process We Follow,". A HUGE thank you to our speakers, attendees, and sponsors, Ames & Gough, Unanet, and Wipfli, for making this symposium such a pleasure to attend. #MANext2024 #MergersAndAcquisitions #GrowthStrategies
