When we think about EMS professionals, we often picture them rushing to emergencies and saving lives. What often goes unnoticed is the quiet routine of preparation that begins their day. It's a moment that sets the tone for the challenges and triumphs ahead. This routine is born out of dedication and responsibility—a ritual that ensures they are prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to any emergency. They leave nothing to chance, from the smallest bandage to the most advanced medical equipment. Let's take a moment to recognize this unsung ritual, this quiet preparation that happens before their day begins. It's a testament to their commitment to our community's safety and well-being. #SCEMSA #EMS #Dedication #BehindTheScenes

There is no shortage of conferences within the EMS space, and presenting at one of these conferences can be an excellent opportunity for professional growth. However, the difference between a decent presentation and an amazing presentation lies in the clarity and call to action. What will you give them to walk away with? https://lnkd.in/eT4nMcR8

Traumatic brain injury (TBI), which includes concussions, can happen if a person is exposed to blasts, sudden forces or impacts during military or police service — and sometimes even occur with repeated smaller impacts over time. The risk for a TBI can start during training and it may share some causes and symptoms with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). TBI can have long-term health and well-being effects, but there are strategies and treatments that can help with day-to-day living and restore functioning. Learn more about TBI, including treatments, well-being strategies and how it may overlap with PTSD — access new resources for Veterans, Families and people who work with them: https://lnkd.in/e65Cjh6a Did you know? June is #BrainInjuryAwareness Month. Visit our campaign page for additional information and resources on TBI: https://lnkd.in/eS-agaqw #BrainInjuryAwareness

S.O.P. 4 Stress
As first responders, firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other emergency personnel face unique challenges that demand peak performance in high-pressure situations. However, one often overlooked factor that significantly affects their ability to perform effectively is sleep deprivation. In this blog post, we’ll explore the profound impact of sleep deprivation on first responder performance and the importance of prioritizing adequate rest for the safety and well-being of both responders and the communities they serve.

Code Blue Resources
Honoring Our Past. Forging Our Future. This week we celebrate our Brothers & Sisters in EMS and our very own EMS professionals here at Code Blue Resources!!! Half a century ago, a presidential proclamation called on the nation to support efforts to improve emergency medical care across the country. It also established the first national EMS Week, a tradition we proudly continue today. Much has changed since 1974, yet there is still much we can learn from those trailblazing professionals who helped EMS evolve into the sophisticated branch of medicine it is today. Their dedication, commitment and sacrifice inspire us to take bold steps of our own, to continue to seek out ways to better serve our patients and our communities. This year, we celebrate EMS Week by honoring our past—by taking a pause to recognize the contributions of each generation, the people who dreamed that we could save more lives and have less suffering, and then found ways to make it happen. EMS Week is never just about the past, however. It’s also about inspiring the EMS professionals just starting out and the young people who haven’t even discovered EMS yet. It’s about learning from the challenges and building on the successes of the last five decades. It’s about forging our future—a future in which the next generation has the tools they need to deliver compassionate care and alleviate suffering in communities everywhere. #EMSWeek #CodeBlueResources

The body cameras used in New Orleans EMS serve as part of a bigger approach to make a medic’s job safe. If something does happen, the camera footage helps determine what happened and New Orleans EMS can work with law enforcement on any charges or legal proceedings around that. Just another case of body cameras being used to provide safety and transparency to the public. #bodycam #safety #accountability #transparency #drjennifermatthews https://lnkd.in/gdkvzA6M

National EMS Management Association (NEMSMA)
Save the Date and please share with your networks! The National EMS Management Association’s Emergency Medical Services Field Training and Evaluation Program (EMS-FTEP™) is the gold standard for onboarding new employees. Your agency invests significant resources into recruiting and retaining EMTs and paramedics. Preparing them to be successful through a structured field training and evaluation program is critical to ensuring their success and reducing turnover. The EMS-FTEP™ Basic FTO course is designed to provide the employee and the agency with the greatest possible chance of success by providing a framework that assures employees understand, develop, and demonstrate essential skills and behaviors. The Developing and Managing the EMS-FTEP™ program provides agency leadership with an increased understanding of how a formal EMS-FTEP™ program reduces the risk of legal and administrative challenges to employment decisions and protects the EMS agency from liability based on claims of negligent hiring, negligent retention, negligent entrustment, and failure to train. Join us Monday for the next PCRF Journal Club: Code Burnout: Unveiling the Truth Behind EMS Stress. EMS providers are routinely involved in high-stress situations with limited follow-up or healthy coping mechanisms. These experiences can trigger stress responses and burnout in our first-responder community. Despite the widespread conversation about burnout in EMS, limited literature describes the problem. In this month’s PCRF Clinical Journal Club, the panel will review a study that evaluates burnout in EMS using a validated tool! https://ow.ly/3lBo50S8SyI

https://lnkd.in/eT7cse9R As industry leaders in Connecticut's public safety sector, particularly in the pre-hospital setting, it's important for us to approach the changes in our industry with open eyes and an innate sense of what is best for our communities both short and most certainly long term. Across the State, there are many challenges plaguing our EMS system making it difficult for those within the industry and certainly those outside of it to interpret some of the current issues presented in this article. This is just one of dozens. Trying to apply a one size fits all solution to most issues rarely yields positive results. The same can be said for large corporate organizations. Yes, change is needed desperately. However, we should all be weary of large corporate entities motives and intentions as we navigate the paradigm shift in our state's pre-hospital medical services. At the end of the day, the questions should be, how do we provide the best quality emergency medical services to our communities while also building incredible workplace culture for our EMTs and Paramedics? Whichever solution yields positive results in both areas, is the change I can get behind. #publicsafety #EMS #Connecticut #medicalservices

🚑 It’s National EMS week! 🚑 Health and wellness of EMS providers has gradually gained more attention over the years. Many agencies now utilize psychologists, therapy dogs, and peer support groups. There is a lot more work to do however. In a 2022 article by JEMS, suicide was the leading cause of death of EMS personnel, second only to vehicle accidents on duty. THIS HAS TO CHANGE. The stress we face on a day to day basis on the job is bad enough - but the stigma surrounding seeking help is still too strong and adds to this stress. 🚑 EMS leaders need to step up more and face this crisis head on. Make it normal in your organization to ask for help and have resources readily available. If you don’t know where to start, ask questions. 🚑 EMS personnel should also get together to demand change. It won’t happen overnight but it can happen. Your efforts will save lives today and down the road. 🚑 Check in on one another. Learn the signs that your teammate is struggling. A simple text or phone call can let that person know they are on your mind. Code Green Campaign, NAEMT, SAMHSA, and Reviving Responders are just a few of the resources that are available for anyone in public safety. ❤️Be brave enough to start the conversation ❤️ Below are a few resources and more are in my bio link. American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Call 800-273-8255 or text TALK to 741741 National Alliance on Mental Illness NAMI hotline: 800-950-6264 National Suicide Prevention Hotline 1-800-273-8255 - 24-hour, toll-free, confidential suicide prevention hotline available to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. Safe Call Now 206-459-3020 - comprehensive, 24-hour crisis referral service for all public safety employees, all emergency services personnel and their family members nationwide. All counselors taking calls are first responders. Also provide resources on their web site. #paramedic #emt #ems #emsweek #publicsafety #ambulance #mentalhealthawareness
