As a Venture Capital Associate within AWS, you will have an exciting opportunity to help deliver on the strategy to build mind share and broaden the use of Amazon’s cloud computing platform with venture-backed startups. Your responsibilities will include partnering with cross-functional AWS teams, leveraging internal and external data to generate business insights, and support AWS executives to build long-term relationships with the world’s top venture firms. You will work closely with the AWS sales, technical, and marketing teams to drive strategic interactions with startups that create long-term business opportunities. You’ll work closely with senior AWS team members to grow relationships with VC firms and startups through portfolio analysis, industry research, direct interaction with founders, and authoring thought leadership reports.

The ideal candidate will possess both a business and technical background and can effectively manage, automate, and interpret large amounts of information. They will have worked in a fast-paced and rigorous environment, whether in a corporate structure (e.g. major technology platform companies), startup company, venture capital, investment banking, and/or consulting. They should have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges with the ability to work cross-organizationally. A keen sense of ownership, curiosity, and bias for action is a must. They will also possess a passion for learning about new and emerging technologies.

Key job responsibilities

  • Drive thought leadership by compiling and reporting field insights to broader Startup and AWS teams. Research and analyze venture capital and startup trends and create field intelligence reports and industry analysis for an audience of senior executives. Experiment alongside senior team members to find new ways to gather insights on the venture capital and startup ecosystems and develop programs to support startups.
  • Implement and manage venture capital portfolios in Salesforce and Quicksight. Works with senior team members to ensure the right information is being captured and surfaced when preparing for VC meetings.
  • Collect, analyze and report on KPIs and other performance metrics to enable the VCBD team to deliver impactful results. Centralized owner for AWS Activate credit program and connecting startups to the sales teams.
  • Partner with the Sales Operations team to develop automated and systematic solutions for onboarding new startup accounts through our systems. Execute strategic customer programs for VCBD to ensure accounts are mapped correctly and top startups are being highlighted to sales and service teams.
  • Align and work closely with senior team members on the top VC firms to support those relationships and scale the resulting outcomes. Execute programs and initiatives with these large firms and the entrepreneurs they support.
  • Collaborate with BDMs on internal projects, joint VC initiatives and events to drive engagement and deeper partnerships with VCs and their portfolio companies.

The VC BD team consists of founders, investors, and individuals immersed in the startup ecosystem. Their extensive connections with founders and investors enable them to grasp the dynamics of the investing ecosystem. With experience as founders or VCs, they possess a deep understanding of the system and empathize with founders.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
  • Knowledge of Excel at an intermediate level (e.g., pivot tables & charts, multiple criteria lookups, nested logical/IF formulas, data cleansing, array formulas, etc.)
  • 3+ years of business development, partnership management, or sourcing new business experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building processes, project management, and schedules
  • Experience working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams
  • Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $83,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $177,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
