From a small, Detroit-based, geotechnical engineering firm, they have grown into a nationally recognized, full-service infrastructure and environmental consulting firm, offering a wide range of services in civil design, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, and facilities engineering.


A Day in the Life of a Civil Design Sr. Project Engineer

As a Civil Design Sr. Project Engineer, you will:

  • Develop and prepare work plans and proposals for engineering services related to site/civil consultation and design, including defining the scope of field investigations and design efforts, preparing cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Prepare, deliver, and discuss design and bid documents with clients.
  • Manage project schedules and budgets for various projects.
  • Prepare and review engineering analyses, reports, calculations, contract documents, designs, and specifications for site/civil projects.
  • Plan, organize, supervise, and conduct field evaluations and inspections as necessary.
  • Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed site/civil features.
  • Develop design details and specify appropriate construction materials.
  • Coordinate construction quality control services, conduct periodic site visits, and review daily field reports prepared by others.
  • Conduct pre-proposal, pre-construction, and construction progress meetings, and prepare minutes of those meetings.
  • Develop and present project-specific or technical presentations to clients, technical organizations, and in-house staff.
  • Assist Project Managers in managing projects requiring financial, technical, and administrative leadership, and growing opportunities with new and existing clients.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Project Directors to address client concerns and communicate changes to scope, schedule, and budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university. Master’s Degree preferred but not required.
  • Professional Registration is required.
  • 7+ years of demonstrated site development experience including site layout, grading, utility design, pavement design, permitting, budgeting, jurisdictional agency interaction, and other related project activities.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D required; Infrastructure Suite or MicroStation experience is a plus.
  • Preferred experience with Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modeling software, including proficient use of HEC-HMS, SWMM, Storm and Sanitary Analysis, or others.
  • Willingness and ability to work on construction sites performing review activities.
  • Ability to understand and read design drawings.
  • Ability to organize technical material into comprehensive drawings, specifications, and reports, and perform QA/QC reviews on work products.
  • Project planning, budgeting, task delegation, and management to ensure projects are completed according to work plans.
  • Project administration, including invoicing and collections.
  • Conduct periodic site/client visits, project, and business development meetings.
  • Assist in developing business strategies and action plans for creating growth opportunities.
  • Work with Business Development staff to bring new clients and business opportunities to the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to seek and establish new clients and build strong business relationships with both new and current clients.
