Job Description
The Coventry Business Unit is seeking a dedicated and experienced Government Relations Director with a focus on the workers’ compensation and PIP auto sectors, to lead our government affairs efforts and advocate for our company’s interests in regulatory and legislative matters. As the Government Relations Director, you will play a critical role in influencing regulatory environments and advancing our company’s objectives across the United States, and any state considering major regulatory reforms or bills with potential broad-reaching impact on Coventry or its clients.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, government relations, law, or related field is typically required. Advanced degrees, such as a master’s or Juris Doctor (JD), is nice to have.

Job Description
The Coventry Business Unit is seeking a dedicated and experienced Government Relations Director with a focus on the workers’ compensation and PIP auto sectors, to lead our government affairs efforts and advocate for our company’s interests in regulatory and legislative matters. As the Government Relations Director, you will play a critical role in influencing regulatory environments and advancing our company’s objectives across the United States, and any state considering major regulatory reforms or bills with potential broad-reaching impact on Coventry or its clients.
- Develops and executes comprehensive government relations strategies at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Drafts bill text, public comments, talking points, and white papers in support of Coventry’s strategic goals across all products, including PPO/networks, PBM, UR, Bill Review, and Telemedicine.
- Interfaces and advocates with state and national governmental agencies and organizations, testifying on behalf of Coventry, as well as speaking on behalf of Coventry at public hearings and conferences.
- Establishes and maintains strong relationships with regulars in key jurisdictions.
- Attends national and regional conferences, establishing strong relationships with key players on the national stage.
- Serves as ad hoc “internal consultant” to senior management and operational staff for systems and process-related changes associated with changing regulatory environments.
Qualifications:

Skills and Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in government relations, public affairs, lobbying, or related roles, with a focus in workers’ compensation or PIP auto industry.
- Experience working in government agencies, legislative offices, or advocacy organizations is highly valued.
- Understanding of the workers’ compensation system, including laws, regulations, administrative processes, and industry dynamics at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Familiarity with key stakeholders, such as insurance carriers, employers, injured workers, medical providers, and regulatory agencies, is essential.
- Strong knowledge of workers’ compensation policy issues, trends, and developments, including emerging topics such as medical treatment guidelines, utilization review, fee schedules, and legislative reforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
- Experience preparing and presenting advocacy materials, such as policy briefs, position papers, testimony, and talking points, is crucial.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
