Are you a newsy? Do you open Google Alerts reflexively and find yourself reaching out to sources just to see what’s happening? Does the pressure of a deadline and the rush to publish breaking stories get your adrenaline flowing? Then you may be the next news editor on the award-winning PPAI Media team.
You’ll have a lot to write about. We’re the content arm of a trade association serving the $26 billion promotional products industry (swag, branded merch, etc.), and there is much more to say than you might imagine. Our audience of members come from the smallest mom-and-pop operations to multinationals worth billions and backed by private equity. It’s an interesting industry, full of colorful characters, and this position provides the opportunity to tell their stories and inform them on what they need to know and how to make the best decisions to serve their businesses.
Essential Functions and Primary Duties
- Report, write and edit for all PPAI publications, cultivating story ideas and sources throughout the promotional products industry.
- Determine and develop key content for all publications, exercising news and editorial judgment with minimal need for oversight.
- Contribute to industry-wide discussion and community building efforts.
- Contribute to PPAI-produced multimedia and social media as determined.
- Cultivate relationships with members, as well as industry and outside experts for editorial contributions.
- Curate resources from a wide variety of outlets including business publications.
- Contribute to production of publications within specified budget and deadlines.
- Assist with photo selection, posting articles and developing e-newsletters.
- Develop content for scheduled supplements and research projects.
Skills/Experience Required
- Demonstrated ability to produce a wide variety of content while managing overlapping deadlines.
- Excellent news judgment and writing skills for breaking news, trend pieces and in-depth and feature-length stories. Digital experience preferred.
- Expert in AP style with a strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of an editorial team.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Strong interest in learning about the issues, challenges and opportunities related to the promotional products industry.
- Experience with content management systems.
- Demonstrated grasp of social media engagement.
- Experience in podcasting or broadcasting a plus, but not a requirement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
