Your Impact

The Senior Associate for Strategic Planning & Growth will work closely with a small team that leads RMI’s strategic planning processes; supports impact measurement, evaluation, and learning; and provides frameworks and due diligence for strategic growth opportunities (e.g., new partnerships, market affiliates, acquisitions, geographic expansion). You will also support RMI’s Strategy Council in guiding overall institute strategy and managing key portfolio decisions.

Strategic Planning & Growth is part of RMI’s Strategy Team, which also includes Strategic Insights (who provide portfolio-level insights and thought leadership, internally and externally) and Strategic Engagement (who provide strategic frameworks and support for engaging critical stakeholders). This role will report to the Manager, Strategic Planning & Growth

Major Roles And Responsibilities

  • Support the process management of RMI’s internal innovation fund from the application process through the lifecycle of each grant (e.g., tracking submissions, coordinating with applicants, improving processes, etc.)
  • Help coordinate and execute RMI’s annual strategic planning process in partnership with the Manager and Principal of Strategic Planning & Growth, including identifying requirements and potential solutions for a strategy management software platform
  • Collaborate with the Chief Strategy Officer and SP&G team to provide strategic decision-making support and system sensing to RMI Programs
  • Contribute to developing and continuously improving strategy guidelines and processes related to emerging opportunities, new coalitions, market affiliates, and mergers and acquisitions.
  • Coordinate with other core business functions (e.g., Development, Finance) to integrate strategy-related processes and guidelines with other related business processes.
  • Partner with the Strategic Insights and Engagement teams to track strategic blind spots and emerging opportunities for new bodies of work.

Core Skills And Experiences

  • 4+ years in the corporate or non-profit sectors with experience in one or more of project or portfolio management, strategic planning, strategy or management consulting, corporate development, venture capital, or similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing policies, processes, or procedures that affect multiple internal stakeholders with sometimes conflicting priorities and perspectives.
  • Ability to listen actively, be diplomatic, and communicate your ideas clearly, including when working with top-level executives in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks.
  • Evidence of strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and other Microsoft applications.

Desired Skills And Experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, environmental studies, political science, economics, or related field. MBA or a graduate degree a plus.
  • Generalist experience working in environment, climate, or energy field strongly desired.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating strategic organization-wide impact, such as leading a project / process that was implemented across a large organization
  • International experience desired but not required.

Location

We are a remote-ready organization with team members around the globe. Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby. Our U.S. offices are in New York City; Washington DC; Oakland, California; Boulder, Colorado; and Basalt, Colorado. This role can be located from anywhere in the continental United States.

We provide you with the essential IT equipment plus a one-time home technology payment and a monthly work from home/commuter allowance to ensure you have a comfortable home office set up and necessary supplies.

We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs). Some roles may require more travel, which will be discussed during the hiring process.

Compensation    

RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, a new Senior Associate joins at the minimum to mid salary range of $84,000 to $103,000. You would also have an additional 5% bonus target!
