The Position
The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) is seeking a qualified student for a paid internship. Undergraduate students in their third or fourth year as well as graduate students are encouraged to apply. All applicants with relevant experience or coursework will be considered.
MAG develops and maintains a number of transportation modeling tools required for regional planning processes. The models provide technical support for planning and engineering needs of MAG member agencies and the regional transportation planning community. MAG utilizes an activity-based model (ABM) as the model of record for regional travel forecasting. MAG also maintains a suite of modeling tools including numerous dynamic traffic assignments (DTA) and microsimulation models.
The primary duties of the internship will include working with transportation forecasting models and modeling software, development, review and maintenance of software code, working with various databases, spreadsheets and related applications, assisting in the preparation of documentation and administrative duties (meetings arrangements, documentation maintenance). Opportunities for on-the-job learning will be provided.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills, working knowledge of travel forecasting and modeling, strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.
Knowledge and proficiency in Python is necessary. Knowledge of Java is desirable. Knowledge of TransCAD, ESRI GIS, and statistical packages such as R, ALOGIT, SPSS will be a plus.
The length of internship will be determined based on candidate’s preferences, qualifications, and performance.
