All aboard … almost! We supported NCDOT at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Durant Road Grade Separation project—the first project to go to construction as part of the Raleigh to Richmond (R2R) Innovating Rail Program. This project begins the process of improving safety along the corridor by separating roadway traffic from trains, paving the way for the future rail improvements envisioned along the S-Line corridor. Several VHBers are helping to update the Federal Highway Administration's Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)--literally writing the book on transportation safety. Their active involvement in the committee responsible for the MUTCD gives VHB a significant stake in its content and a deep understanding of the Manual’s standards, guidance, and nuances. This allows our team to make highly informed recommendations to clients on implementing MUTCD standards on projects and creating designs aligned with the MUTCD from the start.
