As the first company to pilot the Sustainable Development Impact Disclosure (SDID) under the Impact Disclosure Guidance framework, we have the responsibility of ensuring actionable change. I joined Alexandra Barry, Vice President of the J.P. Morgan Development Finance Institution and co-chair of the Impact Disclosure Taskforce in a roundtable discussion at London Climate Action Week. We spoke to investors to understand their views on the Impact Disclosure Guidance. The initiative aims to enhance impact measuring and monitoring, attracting sustainable capital to support emerging markets and developing economies. It requires substantial annual investments, and at DP World, we are committed to being a catalyst for equitable change. We recognise the critical need to accelerate and diversify funding into emerging markets. That is why we are working towards promoting transparency and accountability across all SDGs. This innovative framework allows us to demonstrate our year-on-year development and showcase how our strategies align with national agendas. From optimising supply chain efficiency in India to creating employment opportunities in Somaliland and boosting GDP in Senegal, our efforts are creating tangible, positive impacts. Our journey continues as we finalise frameworks for our operations in Africa and South America, ensuring impactful investments in the Global South. At DP World, we view emerging markets as growth markets. Our adoption of the SDID framework not only measures our impact but also aims also aims to scale up private-sector financing. This journey has just begun, and I look forward to inspiring others to join us in taking impactful actions for a sustainable future. #LCAW2024

Really uplifting closing session at Reuters Events Sustainable Business Reuters IMPACT conference ESG Investment Europe 2023 today, on mobilising investment to promote sustainable development goals in emerging markets. I was pleased to speak about how at the former International Integrated Reporting Council, we were able to develop an ESG infrastructure to enable integrated reporting, working with capital market actors in South-East Asia, across Africa and Latin America. Fellow panellists Ylva Lindberg, Executive Vice President – Strategy and Communication, Norfund described how local investment projects had protected the the frontline workforce during the challenges of Covid; whilst Robert Adamczyk, Chief ESG Advisor, EBRD argued that investors should be prepared to withstand reputational criticism, in order to fund transition projects, even where standards are low in comparison with developed economies. I agreed with our moderator Claire Meier Underhill, Managing Director, Emerging Markets Investors Alliance (EMIA) that international financial institutions and development banks have to uphold commitments made at global summits by developed countries, if blended finance to achieve Sustainable Development Goals are to be achieved. We recently hosted a roundtable discussion titled "ESG in the African Context." The event delved into the crucial need to integrate socio-economic and market contexts into ESG considerations, particularly focusing on the challenges and opportunities in Africa. We brought together Sustainability leaders from banking institutions, investors, rating agencies, and civil society for an insightful dialogue, addressing pressing questions on the role of regional context in ESG, challenges in assessing ESG performance in Africa, and strategies for balancing emission reduction with regional priorities. These ecosystems include everything from mangroves to seagrass beds and salt marshes. The World Bank's first-of-its-kind blue carbon readiness framework empowers governments to tap into their full blue carbon potential to benefit people and the planet. This tool helps governments invest in blue carbon to deliver real and scalable impact for their communities and economies and help meet their commitments under the Paris Agreement. The purpose of this paper is to provide a practical framework to guide governments in catalyzing and scaling up public and private investment in Blue Carbon as part of their blue economy development. It does this by describing in detail a Blue Carbon Readiness Framework, a step-by-step, well-illustrated guide with simple checklists. Countries can use the illustrations and checklists to determine their readiness to catalyze and scale up investment in blue carbon credit finance. The Blue Carbon Readiness Framework consists of three pillars: 1. Data and Analytics; 2. Policy and Institutions; 3. Finance. PROBLUE is a Multi-Donor Trust Fund, housed at the World Bank, that supports the development of integrated, sustainable, and healthy marine and coastal resources. PROBLUE contributes to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14) and is fully aligned with the World Bank’s vision to create a world free of poverty on a livable planet.
