Today marks the day, 30 years ago, that Ayrton Senna was tragically killed. Three decades after his death at Imola, the great Brazilian driver remains a revered but controversial figure in motorsport. From this list, here’s my fave race featuring him … 4. The Ayrton Senna legend is born: Monaco Grand Prix 1984 … “It will be really a tragic result for Senna. However, while he’s not about to be world champion this year, he will undoubtedly be world champion in the future if his career continues.” Thus spoke BBC commentator and 1976 world champion James Hunt, having witnessed one of the great wet weather performances of all time. Senna, behind the wheel of a decidedly mid-to-back-of-the-field Toleman, had made his way to second place by Lap 19 of the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix, as drivers of the calibre of Niki Lauda and Nigel Mansell were spinning off all around him. UNDERDOG TALES: When Senna took the F1 paddock by storm with Toleman and made Monaco’s streets his own Between Lap 27 and Lap 31 – the last lap before race official Jacky Ickx (ironically a notorious regenmeister himself) controversially threw the red flag to stop proceedings – Senna had gained on race leader Alain Prost by an average of 3.7 seconds a lap, passing him for the lead across what became the finish line on Lap 32 but falling back to second in the final countback. Was he robbed? It’s a question that can still excite F1 fans down the pub today. Whatever your opinion, though, there was no doubt that Senna’s drive that day had been one of the most special in F1 history. 🏎️ Exciting Weekend Ahead 🏁 This upcoming weekend marks the third round of the Porsche Schweiz AG Sports Cup Suisse, where our friend and driver Felix Hirsiger embarks on the next challenge to repeat what has been achieved in the last two weekends. After an amazing performance in Le Castallet during the second round of the championship, Felix currently leads with a 38-point advantage over the second place. But there's no time to rest. Imola, a new track Felix has not yet driven on, is up next for a thrilling round. Our partnership with a racing driver enables us to view the day-to-day challenges in business from a sporting angle. Just like in racing, business requires meticulous preparation, quick decision-making, and the ability to navigate unforeseen obstacles. Both arenas demand resilience, strategic planning, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Felix’s dedication to mastering new tracks mirrors how we approach new market challenges – with agility, determination, and an unwavering focus on our goals. As Felix gears up for Imola, we are reminded that in both business and racing, it’s not just about reaching the destination but also about the journey, the learning, and the continuous improvement along the way. Here's to pushing boundaries and achieving new milestones, both on the track and in the business world. Best of luck, Felix! 🏆 https://lnkd.in/e8G8q6Yg #PorscheSportsCup #Racing #TeamWork #Performance

𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗨𝗽 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 officially joins the MotoGP world championship as the main partner of 𝗠𝗧𝗔 𝗜𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 , with a new and ambitious medium-term project, which aims to resume the excellent work started by Alessandro Tonucci, bringing it to a higher level. 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗨𝗽 𝗠𝗧𝗔 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 will continue to pursue the objective of being a reference team for the growth of young talents in the MotoGP, but at the same time it becomes an ambitious project to develop the image of Italian companies which, by exploiting the visibility and extraterritoriality guaranteed by the MotoGP, will be able to raise their brand to international visibility. LEVELUP Motorsport is therefore not only part of a purely sporting project, but acts as a commercial and business facilitator for Made in Italy in the world. This week marked the 30th anniversary of the double tragedy at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. There has been much comment on social and mainstream media about it, primarily focused on the death of race leader, triple World Champion Ayrton Senna, but it’s also good to see that Roland Ratzenberger is well remembered too. Safety and risk management is a topic I often speak about at conferences, the early part of my career being marred by tragedies - not only of F1 stars such as Ayrton and Roland, but also in junior formulae, drivers including Paul Warwick, Pete Rogers & Bertrand Fabi. The sea change in F1 and wider motorsport’s approach to safety, championship by key individuals including FIA President Max Mosley, F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, Professor Sid Watkins and Race Director Charles Whiting has yielded remarkable results. The sport has suffered only one further driver fatality in the three decades since Imola ‘94, Jules Bianchi succombing to the head injury he suffered at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix, but the risks remain. #Safety #RiskManagement #Performance #Innovation #RaceToZero
Reflecting on three decades since Ayrton Senna's passing, Mark Gallagher joined Farrah Esmail on Al Jazeera Media Network this week to discuss Senna's iconic legacy in Formula 1 as well as the evolution of safety in motorsport.
