Evaluation of a Fully Digital, In-House Virtual Surgical Planning Workflow for Bimaxillary Orthognathic Surgery A fully digital, in-house virtual surgical planning (VSP) workflow is a reliable method for orthognathic surgical planning, according to a new study from the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. While VSP has well-documented advantages, this study aimed to compare the accuracy of the virtual plan with the actual surgical outcomes. The study said the findings are valuable for clinicians seeking to optimize treatment planning. https://lnkd.in/gwCAeFhJ

Ophthopedia Update:Glaucoma surgical procedures under development: Purpose of review Rapid innovation in glaucoma surgery is expanding surgical options in the angle, subconjunctival space, and supraciliary space. Recent findings Advancements in glaucoma surgery make it possible for surgeons to provide treatments with less risk. In particular, new devices and lasers are available for minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. There are also new implants and techniques for bleb-forming glaucoma surgery. Summary As glaucoma surgeons have access to an increasing number of procedures, devices, and treatments, it is important for evidence to drive decision-making. #Ophthalmology #Eye #Ophthotwitter

CMTR online first: new paper available: https://brnw.ch/21wLUhQ Study Design: This paper presents a case series analysis of 5 patients with Luhr class III mandible fractures treated using virtual surgical planning (VSP) and patient-specific implants (PSI) between October 2020 and February 2023. The study focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of VSP and PSI in managing complex mandibular fractures, particularly in edentulous patients. Objective: The primary objective is to assess the outcomes of using VSP and PSI for reconstructive surgery in patients with Luhr class III mandible fractures. The study aims to determine the accuracy of these techniques in fracture reduction and their impact on surgical complications and overall patient outcomes. Authors: Daniel P. Caruso, DDS, MD, Vincent M. Aquino, DDS, MD, Jeffrey T. Hajibandeh, DDS, MD, FACS ⭐ AO CMF members have access to all CMTR papers.

Ophthopedia Update:Minimally invasive, maximally impactful: minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and the changing glaucoma landscape: Purpose of review The advent of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) procedures has ushered in a new era of interventional glaucoma. MIGS has expanded the treatment options for surgeons necessitating a rethinking of the optimal management strategy for patients with glaucoma. Recent findings There are several new MIGS devices and procedures available to glaucoma surgeons. With several options available, patient selection is crucial to maximize the utility of MIGS in the context of traditional glaucoma surgery. Summary A management algorithm is presented based on our practice pattern to help guide decision-making for glaucoma surgeons. Although we encourage surgeons to continue to broaden their toolkit, we emphasize the continued importance of teaching the next-generation traditional glaucoma surgery in the MIGS era. Future prospective studies are warranted to elucidate the optimal treatment strategy for patients with glaucoma. #Ophthalmology #Eye #Ophthotwitter

📃Scientific paper: Endoscopy in Craniosynostosis Surgery: Evolution and Current Trends Abstract: Over the past 30 years, advances in endoscopic technology and advancing interest in the benefits of minimally invasive approaches for craniofacial surgery have resulted in these techniques becoming a part of the standard of care in the treatment of craniosynostosis. In this review, we discuss the evolution and adoption of endoscopic-assisted strip craniectomy procedures. In addition to reviewing the studies describing various nuances and modifications to minimally invasive strip craniectomy, attention to comparisons in outcomes between traditional or open cranial vault reconstructions and endoscopic-assisted techniques is highlighted for different craniosynostosis diagnoses. What is Laparoscopic Surgery? 💡 📢 Laparoscopic surgery is a remarkable advancement in the field of minimally invasive surgery. By making several small incisions in the abdominal wall, surgeons can insert instrument channels. Through these channels, they can then introduce a lens and laparoscopic surgical instruments to perform the necessary procedures. 📢 This technique minimizes the physical trauma associated with traditional open surgeries, leading to quicker recovery times, reduced pain, and smaller scars for patients. As a key development trend in modern surgical procedures, laparoscopic surgery is revolutionizing the way we approach surgical treatment. 🔑 In BOER, we are proud to offer a range of high-quality laparoscopic surgical instruments designed to support this innovative approach. Our instruments are crafted to ensure precision, safety, and efficiency, helping surgeons achieve the best outcomes for their patients. #LaparoscopicSurgery #MinimallyInvasive #SurgicalInnovation #Healthcare #MDRcertificates
