It is World Water Day. A time to reflect on the urgency for the need for drinking water and also what can be done to raise the bar when it comes to WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) initiatives. At the Rotary Club of Sentosa, Singapore, we have been actively involved in WASH projects in primary and secondary schools in Siem Reap, Cambodia by building toilets and washing stations. This is supplemented by education of proper hygiene standards, the need for washing hands and also to refrain from practices that are unsafe. This education extends to the families of the students, the village leadership and the villagers. Our projects are supported by generous donors in the region and also helped by Global Grants from Rotary International. Since 2020, we have built toilets and washing stations in 45 schools, at the same time providing many of them with water filters for potable water. Organisations like WATER.ORG are playing an important role in alleviating the water situation in South East Asia with urgency and purpose. The time for ACTION is now. #rotaryclubsentosa #water.org #gaysantos #water #sustainabledevelopment #WASH

Today is World Water Day, which is a United Nations observance to raise awareness and inspire action to tackle the water and sanitation crisis. Here's a quick tip to help conserve water each day: Did you know a few simple actions you can take when brushing your teeth can save about 80% of the water normally used? Turn water off while brushing your teeth and use short burst of water to clean your toothbrush. #WorldWaterDay #conserve #water Looking for additional ways to conserve water? The Water Project is a great place to start.

On April 17th, part of Heza Washing Station was taken out by a major landslide. Surrounding communities were impacted as well, an estimated over 400 homes have been destroyed. When we built Heza, the government coffee board said we must be crazy that this site would act as a micro station. However, our team used our core value of Mwangaza and created a community-centered station that is thriving and producing some of the finest coffees in Africa. There are many players that feel the impact from devastation, and as a buyer, you might be curious about its implications for you or why it matters. Rest assured, our team quickly came up with a solution for cherry reception so we’re still receiving them at Heza. A landslide can definitely slow logistics temporarily, but we’re still operating as normal. The reality is that climate change is becoming more prevalent across coffee-growing nations every single year, directly impacting the coffee industry. Too little rain means insufficient water supply for tree growth, too much rain means landslides and floods that take out entire plantations and operations. We value providing quality coffee, and we’re certain you do as well. Your support can make a real difference in ensuring the sustainability of the coffee supply chain. By working together to innovate and adapt, farmers can grow and harvest the coffee that the world enjoys—and together, we can ensure a continued supply of exceptional coffee. Head to this link to donate to our fundraiser to help repair the damage from the landslide: —— #SpecialtyCoffee #GreenCoffee #CoffeeProducer #AfricanSpecialtyCoffee

Water is Life: Bringing Life and Water Together 💧 WATERisLIFE is an organization that seeks to transform lives by providing people with access to the basic necessities of life - clean water. They provide safe drinking water and sanitation solutions through various filtration systems to communities in need, primarily in Africa and Latin America. Water Is Life Mission: Their mission is to bring joy and a sense of security to the lives of those facing the challenge of access to clean water. Water is Life believes that clean water is not just a resource, but a tool for improving health, education and community development. How they do it: - Water Supply Projects: Water is Life builds wells, water points, and other systems that provide access to clean water for rural and urban communities. - Hygiene Education: they conduct educational programs on the importance of clean water and the rules of hygienic living. - Community and partnership: the organization works closely with local communities and partners to ensure that our projects focus on real needs. Their Values: - Equity: Water is Life, ensuring equal access to water for all, regardless of social status or location. - Collaboration: the organization works with local authorities, NGOs and donors to achieve maximum impact. - Innovation: They are always looking for new approaches and technologies to effectively address access to clean water. Lack of access to clean water causes serious health problems, especially among children, and is a barrier to social and economic development. Water Is Life aims to change this negative scenario by creating streams of life-saving water around the world. 💙🌐 #water #waterislife #nonprofit #charity #philanthropy #organisation

Worms! 🪱 Could these slimy creatures be the winning solution to a problem? Potentially. Ten of our team are competing in this year’s Winnovators, a global competition run by the not-for-profit WaterAid . The competition has two parts - to raise money for WaterAid and come up with a solution to this year’s problem 👉 the need for improved sanitation in Papua New Guinea’s coastal communities. The team has started strong with their fundraising thanks to a sausage sizzle and a trivia night, with the aim of raising a whopping $10,000 for WaterAid. Now, back to the worms. Homes in Papua New Guinea are built on stilts over the ocean and toilets empty directly into the sea. The team is looking at ways to capture and treat waste in an innovative way. Their idea uses worms to break down waste, turning it into organic compost and recycled water. They chose this challenge 'cos they can help the community and the environment at the same time. Last year’s team ended up taking out the winning spot. But, let's face it, when you’re creating this much positive social and environmental change, every team is a winner 🏆 #WaterIndustry #Challenge #Fundraising #Environment #Teamwork #Wastewater #Innovation #ProblemSolving #Solutions
