Lack of support + Lack of resources + Crisis = #homelessness Yesterday #SCOTUS heard oral arguments in #JohnsonvGrantsPass, from which a decision could inform how the law impacts people who are living on the streets. No matter where you land on the issue, please consider: What if you were on the streets? What about your kids? What about your sibling or cousin? Parents? Would you be more motivated to "do something about it" then? I know there are the offenders and those that are manipulating or gaming the system, and that everyone makes decisions that lead somewhere... but that's not everyone that you see on the streets. The reality is that we're ALL a couple of steps away from losing everything and ending up there. In light of this, I'd like to encourage a few responses... First, the next time you see someone on the streets, reflect on your own heart posture towards the image-bearer whose story you don't know. They are of equal value, dignity, and respect, and we need not hold a position of pride or contempt in looking down on others whose circumstances are different from ours. Instead, consider a response of empathy, compassion, and partnership to know and help them. Second, if praying is your thing, please pray for the outcome of this decision, those advocating for human rights, and the people who will be impacted. Third, if you have any influence, which you do, consider speaking up in your local context, volunteering somewhere to help, donating to organizations that are doing amazing work already, and lending a hand to your neighbor. There are lots of people doing amazing work both locally and nationally (see short list below). The harvest is plenty, but the workers are few. This is a major crisis of our day. The only way for progress to be made is through holistic collaboration within communities for the betterment of all, from social services to housing. The poor will always be among us, but that doesn't give us a license to be apathetic until "the problem" is on our doorstep. To achieve aging in place, it's crucial to evaluate homes and communities to meet evolving needs and establish support. Mobility is key to independence as we age, enabling seniors to reach medical appointments, grocery stores, and social events. Dependable and safe transportation is vital for seniors to maintain their independence and thrive at home. At Drive Happiness, our goal is to provide safe and affordable transportation, ensuring seniors have the necessary resources to live and age comfortably in their own homes. I just received this beauty for my service as a volunteer through work. It's called the "Challenge Coin". If you've never volunteered, you really should consider don't so. The impact it has on your and other communities is so rewarding. We all could be a place for needing assistance, but we're not. So why not be a help to those who are, not just monetarily but with your time. They're is so much to volunteering and you learn a lot as well. Example: a baby cannot go to daycare without a pamper/diaper. Do you know how many pampers/diapers a baby goes through from the time they are born? There are more parents working than you think but their ends do not meet to take care of the necessities such as baby formula (which can cost as much $45 per can) and pampers/diapers. No one woke up one day and said, hmm, I want to be homeless, poor, or destitute. Life happens and some people were overwhelmed by their situation which resulted in their current situation. Be careful who you look down on...it could be you next. #volunteering #volunteerism #veteransrock

Being a part of the group really helps if you ever wanted a career in support services or emergency services. It's great to go out and help the community and you come across so many different situations. DCS provides the team with great trainings. Whether it be learning about all the support services available to an individual or knowing how to use a rope bag, there's training available for everything. Not only that but DCS Management also provides a great support network for all it's members. It comes in mad handy if you dealt with something serious on a particular night and just wanted to speak to someone to get it of your chest. Honestly i love being out with dcs being out there to help people and also having the best team around me." MinnCAP and the Minnesota Department of Human Services both want to help people to improve their lives and prosper. To do so, some individuals and families need assistance from them. MinnCAP's network of 24 Community Action Agencies and DHS do their best to work together to provide Minnesotians with beneficial programming and resources. Together Community Action and DHS have managed to respond to the needs of many in the community by offering housing and utility assistance to classes on homeownership to childcare, among other programs. It is a partnership that works and should continue to do so for a long time.
