As the world will observe #WorldPatientSafetyDay on 17 September to raise global awareness of patient safety, we remember how the #EuropeanSocialFund has contributed considerably towards excellence in patient care and customer satisfaction 🏥 The #ESF project Non-Technical Skills Training for Healthcare Personnel aimed to provide authentic and contemporary training in non-technical skills to the professionals and support staff within the #healthcare sector in Malta 👨⚕️ The objective is to strengthen team dynamics, and improve interpersonal relations between staff, the patients, and their relatives. This training focused on enhancing both the social dimension and cognitive elements for all personnel working within the sector. This comprehensive approach creates a culture of safety that improves patient outcomes and reduces medical errors. It ensures that alongside their technical expertise, healthcare personnel also master the art of compassionate patient interaction while providing high-quality, safe healthcare services 🤒 #community #healthcare #service SEM - Servizzi Ewropej f'Malta| Public Service of Malta | EU for Social Economy & Social Enterprises

While this study focused on Doctors in the NZ health system, I think that there are some clear takeaways for the Aged Care sector in both NZ and Australia. The Aged Care sector in both countries recruits heavily from overseas for Registered Nurses and there is unfortunately a high level of turnover in the industry. While reasons such as pay contribute to the issue (and shouldn't be overlooked!), each provider should be looking at their onboarding practices as well as their ongoing support for nurses to ensure that their new employees thrive in their new roles. It takes a huge amount of effort to recruit and induct new nurses from other countries so every effort should be made to help them adjust. This article shows that some initial, one-off type training isn't enough and that ongoing support will be needed.

ARE YOU COMING TO WORK IN IRELAND AS A DOCTOR? Are you prepared? Well, June 1991 I was getting ready to start a Registrar post in London. It was only a few 100 miles away and English is our common language. But…..every healthcare system works differently no matter how experienced you are. I certainly can empathise with doctors coming to Ireland no matter how experienced they are in their own countries. Despite similarities I found the transition challenging. *If English isn’t your first language consider a course such as Rachel Williams or Helena Docherty * Have you all your visas and IMC sorted? * What about familiarity with Irish healthcare. Check out the courses on HSEland * Litigation, open disclosure and the role of regulation may be another unfamiliar area. If you are not a member of Medical Protection Society there are huge benefits of membership. Assistance, education and counselling. Assistance with all of the above, our IMD Page devoted to international graduates and phased membership fees ( which are tax deductible) MPS has a great Irish team- there for you #medicalprotection #patientsafety.

**Downside of Medical Tourism:** 1. **Quality Concerns:** Variability in healthcare standards may pose risks to patients, impacting the outcome of medical procedures. 2. **Communication Barriers:** Language differences between patients and foreign medical staff can hinder clear and accurate communication, potentially leading to misunderstandings or mistakes. 3. **Hidden Costs:** The initial attractive cost of medical procedures may not account for additional expenses such as travel, accommodation, or unforeseen medical complications, making the overall cost higher than expected. 4. **Legal Vulnerabilities:** Patients seeking medical treatment abroad may find themselves with limited legal protection or recourse in the event of malpractice or unsatisfactory outcomes. **Prevention Tips:** 1. **Extensive Research:** Thoroughly investigate potential healthcare providers, checking their qualifications, accreditations, and patient reviews to ensure a high standard of care. 2. **Clear Communication:** Choose destinations where you can comfortably communicate with healthcare providers in your native language or arrange for professional translation services. 3. **Full Cost Estimation:** Calculate the complete cost of your medical journey, including treatment, travel, accommodation, and post-operative care, to avoid unexpected financial burdens. 4. **Legal Safeguards:** Research the legal standards and patient rights in your chosen destination, and consider purchasing medical malpractice insurance or consulting with a legal expert for advice and protection. #MedicalTourism #HealthcareAbroad #GlobalHealthcare #MedicalTravel #TreatmentAbroad #WellnessTourism #SurgicalJourney #HealingDestinations #MedicalAdventures #HealthWithoutBorders
