🌟Meet The Team🌟 Hi, I'm Sally. I joined Acorn in March 2024 and have never been happier working alongside a fantastic team. My role as an Occupational Health Advisor is currently very pleasantly varied and I get to work with lots of great clients who also have fantastic teams. I qualified as a nurse initially many years ago in the Royal Navy (Too long ago to mention😊) and I have had some great opportunities to work in various areas of nursing over the years which has allowed me to gain valuable experience which is always very useful. I have a passion for water… I love the outdoors and have over the years entered teams for charity events such as abseiling and dragon boat racing… very rewarding to see people venture out of their comfort zone. I am a keen sailor and love the fact that our local sailing club have acquired 2 celtic rowing boats….. very challenging on this ocean at times. We are currently practicing for timed race events. I also have a puppy called Reg who was given to us at 8 weeks old. He is adorable long haired French bulldog now 8 months old…. I often find him where sometimes he shouldn’t be….

As March arrives, my thoughts turn to the upcoming sailing ⛵ season. Each year brings new opportunities and challenges as team boss of my racing sailboat.🏁 I am NOT the 👨✈captain, that means a totally different thing. I am chief organizer, pep talker, fun promoter, and roses 🌹 and thorns leader. This month, I begin preparing our crew schedule 📅 and networking to fill any open positions. Every year we wish 💫 we had more people on the bench who maybe don’t want to commit to the whole season, but who can step 👣 in when someone needs to miss a race. I like to meet with returning ⚓ crew to discuss how we can improve from last year, while ensuring our traditions stay the same. Our first regatta, Figawi, is one of the most logistically complex. It involves transporting the boat and crew 200+ miles over land and sea.🌊 Coordinating delivery routes, provisions, lodging 🏨and tide schedules takes significant effort. As team boss, it's my responsibility to ensure everyone's enjoyment (or at least try to keep morale up) along the way.🧜♀️ Beyond racing, I look forward to boat work days where new and seasoned sailors acquaint and re-acquaint themselves with the boat and also fix the millions 🔨 of things that could use fixing. While the weather ⛈️ can't be controlled, fostering camaraderie and memorable experiences is well within my capabilities. I'm energized 🔋 to kick off another season of pushing boundaries on the water alongside a dedicated crew. Stay tuned 📻 for our adventures - fair winds are ahead! 💨 #NumbersInBoxes #opportunities #sailingadventures #challengesahead #seasonalchange

Doing activities that enhance your life can have far reaching positive effects.
Always great combining two of the things I enjoy most – being out on the water and working with the veteran community. Warrior Sailing partners with service members by promoting physical and mental well-being, teamwork, and a good dose of competition through sailing. I’m proud to call myself a supporter.

How to build a team?...give them a purpose for belonging to one. End of January, for the 6th season, consecutively since 2017*, a group of colleagues and myself, spent a weekend in the beautiful snowy mountains of Tyrol, Austria 🏔 . What a blast! Ca. 30 colleagues spending their precious weekend just for the reason of having a good time as a group. Conquering the slopes together, with cold fresh air in their lungs and sun on their skin, no matter one's personal skiing (or toboggan) skill level. Caring and looking after each other, when members fell behind. Enjoying their time and taking the chance of meeting colleagues, who one normally may not have come across. Even more impressive: the 30 colleagues originated from across various different business units. Following this year's call, we've had people on board from IT 💻 , Sales 💲 , Real Estate 🏢 , Purchasing 🤝 , and colleagues on Job Rotation 🚀 as part of their development program. The icing on the cake: partially even joining in with their personal partner and loved one 💕 (which means a lot to me, as it is a sign of trust and comfort)! Absolutely thankful for everybody's contribution to this weekend, and naturally living that team spirit so many try to create and yet still fail. Forget fruit baskets - a pair of skis and some slopes will do! #teamlidl #teamspirit #skiing *exceptions due to COVID period

Board Member, Speaker, People & Culture, Transparency & Governance, “there is always light, if only we are brave enough to see it”
My Sunday wish for you: become a team! I got invited to join a sailing race. And I know nothing much about sailing. It was obviously just for fun and maybe that is one of the best ways for teams to thrive. Catherine, who invited me, is a fascinating person. She loves Saudi Arabia, has even been here as a child. She is one of those people, who simply wants to build and help. And she is an experienced sailor and instructor. We were a mixed bunch. Some with big boat racing experience, some beginners like myself. In my first race I was tasked to handle the main, while a colleague with a bit more experience was at the helm. Our skipper handled the spinnaker, the balance and us in case we made mistakes. I was a bit overwhelmed by the many words I did not know. Luv, tack, jibe, … The skipper and my teammate were kind, explained, when there was time, and gave me clear and simple orders. In no time at all, we felt like a team: common goal, different roles, mutual support. And fun. It made me think, that there are many ways to work in a team. And the experience is invariably better, than attempting things alone. Not just better results, better feeling. I will be seeking out more opportunities to team up. Sometimes momentarily just for a race, sometimes longer term like at work. Of course it takes intent and sometimes even giving up, like I give up my way for the way of the team. It takes generosity, because a team only forms, when people give. It takes some communication skills coupled with respect and the just mentioned generosity. Only that way can we give and receive the necessary feedback to work better as a team. But … what we get out is so absolutely worth it. So my wish for all of us: become a team in whatever you are trying to achieve. It will be better that way and feel better too. Image of a yellow, light brown sandy beach before a bright blue sky. With 7 sailboats of different sizes on the sand, their sails in different bright colors. #teamWork #FutureOfWork #mindfulLeadership #Collaborate

I'm not a competitive person in the traditional sporty sense. With myself, yes. Bettering what I can do personally of course. But I don't care for podium event finishes. Although I do appreciate this from a spectator perspective. My daughter has just made it through youth race week at our local sailing club. Which always features a huge fleet of kids across a number of boat categories. Like me she's not bothered about podiums. Although she does have fun racing her mates. Camaraderie and shared experiences are massive parts of these gatherings. With friendships forged by way of post-race analysis, talking points around starts/finishes/crashes, beach games and jumping the in water (the best part!). The excited chatter on the beach is both interesting and amusing. Situations like this are incredibly formative. And then there are the evening socials which allow them to feel all grown up. The whole thing feels very similar to my overseas seasonaire days with Neilson. And that was the making of me! Moving forwards my kids will remember these days with much fondness. (My youngest son has as much fun playing with his friends and dipping in and out of on water activities as the girl). And the life skills they pick up naturally will serve them well. We may not be vying for the Olympics. But that's not the point. Building blocks for growth via activities like sailing is far more important as far as I'm concerned.

🌟 **Exciting News!** 🌟 After an intense 8-month job search filled with challenges, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve started a new role as a Resource Planner/Administrator at Compleo Health Ltd. 🎉 This journey has been anything but easy. After spending 9 years with my previous employer, adjusting to the job market was a huge challenge. The search was long and often discouraging, with many rejections and near misses. 😓 One of the biggest hurdles was realising I couldn't continue my career in aviation operations in Manchester due to counter-terrorism laws requiring 3 years of local living history at the airport. 🛫 This forced me to explore other career paths. 🔍 I even considered going back to cabin crew and commuting to London. The long-haul contracts there, with only four or so sectors a month, seemed ideal. However, the sheer number of applicants and battling AI screenings was an eye-opener—and hard to accept. 🤖✈️ 💼 Interviews have never been my strength, and I’ve learnt so much about myself through this process. Navigating these challenges with ADHD was difficult but eye-opening. 🌱 The current job market is incredibly tough, and I’ve realised I still favour in-person interviews over online ones. It’s hard to gauge the room and make a genuine connection through a screen. 💻 I’ve also learnt the importance of bringing notes with previous work experience examples into interviews. 📒 Initially, I didn’t do this, but as I progressed, I found it helpful to ensure I provided detailed, relevant answers. However, it was a balancing act—sometimes needing more detail, other times less. It became a learning process to decide when to take feedback on board and when to trust my instincts. One of the hardest moments was being told I was "overqualified" for a role I really wanted. It’s something I still don’t fully understand, especially because I could see myself there long-term. 🤷♂️ 🎢 To add to the rollercoaster, I thought I had secured a job offer earlier in my search, only to have it withdrawn. That was a tough setback, but it taught me resilience and the importance of persistence. 💪 A special thank you to a small group of people who went above and beyond to help me on this journey. 🙏 One recruiter and one HR professional at a major company provided invaluable support. I couldn’t have done this without you. Now, I’m one week into my new role at Compleo Health, and I’m loving the vibe and the people I work with. It feels great to be back in a routine and have structure in my days again. 📅 I’m excited about this new chapter and grateful for the opportunity to start afresh in a new industry. 🚀 A huge thank you to everyone who supported me through this journey—your encouragement has meant the world to me. 🌍 Here’s to new beginnings, growth, and the exciting journey ahead! 🌟 #newbeginnings #careerjourney #jobsearch #resilience #mentalhealth #ADHD #overqualified #healthcare #newopportunities #gratitude #feedback
