Strategic M&A Advisor at OVERSEES and INTHEBOARDROOM, focusing on the intersection of TMT and Sports
🌿 Transforming Sports into a Sustainable Future: Our Journey with Veolia and the Professional Pickleball Association PPA Tour Thrilled to share a significant stride in sports sustainability, where Intheboardroom's Sport Investment Studio was the sole advisor to @Veolia in forging a landmark partnership with the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA Tour) in the USA. Pickleball, now the fastest-growing sport in the US, has not only captured the hearts of millions (approximately 9 million people play pickleball regularly and more than 48 million occasionally, surpassing tennis) but also stands at the cusp of an environmental revolution. Founded in 2019, the PPA Tour organizes and conducts tournaments across the USA, establishes player world rankings, and showcases the world’s best pickleball on broadcast across various platforms and national networks. Our mission at Intheboardroom was to navigate Veolia towards becoming the national partner and official sustainability provider for the PPA, setting a new standard for sports in America. This three-year partnership is a testament to Veolia's commitment to environmental excellence, aiming to transform the PPA Tour into America's leading green sport. Initiatives will include enhancing waste collection, boosting recycling efforts, installing sustainable water refill stations, and comprehensively evaluating the Tour's carbon footprint. Launched in 2023 in Paris, INTHEBOARDROOM SAS's Sport Investment Studio is at the forefront of transforming the sports economic model, integrating Media and Digital innovations. This partnership not only marks a significant achievement in our journey but also showcases the power of strategic collaboration in driving meaningful change. As we celebrate this milestone, I invite you to engage in further discussions on how we can collectively leverage sports as a platform for global environmental and social impact. #Intheboardroom #SustainabilityInSports #pickleball #Veolia #PPATour #GreenSports #Sportbusiness https://lnkd.in/eSYghfGN

Sustainable sports represent a holistic approach to minimizing the environmental impact of athletic activities, promoting health, social cohesion, and economic viability. Central to this movement is the development of eco-friendly sports gear, such as sustainable sport boots made from recycled and organic materials, which significantly reduce the carbon footprint associated with sports. The ecosystem supporting sustainable sports encompasses manufacturers, organizations, athletes, and fans, all collaborating to foster sustainability through innovation, education, and community engagement. This collective effort aims to ensure that sports contribute positively to the planet, with advancements in technology and materials science paving the way for even more sustainable practices and infrastructure in the future. Embracing sustainable sports not only addresses environmental concerns but also ensures the longevity and accessibility of athletics for generations to come, demonstrating a commitment to preserving our planet while enjoying the sports we love #CAAF24 #ClimateAction #EcoAthletics .

Key focus areas include developing a sustainability roadmap that addresses energy use, waste management, travel, and working with suppliers. Andrew also emphasised the importance of collaboration and learning from others in the industry. • Anthony McIntosh, CEO of Little Athletics Victoria (LAVic), shared insights into how they are integrating sustainability into their operations. LAVic, which hosts events for 18,000 athletes and 15,000 families primarily in the Melbourne metropolitan area, is taking proactive steps to reduce its environmental impact. Initiatives include encouraging the use of refillable water bottles, promoting carpooling and public transport, and working with local vendors to minimise food miles. • Brett Saxon, Event Organiser & Race Director, Trailsplus on their 'LEAVE NO TRACE, just footprints' approach to staging events. Since 2009, Trailsplus has hosted over 125 trail running events with a commitment to reducing their environmental impact. Sustainability in sports, especially in sports events, has historically been overlooked, with the primary focus on the excitement of the games and the economic considerations of hosting such events. Nevertheless, in recent years, there has been a significant shift in awareness and acknowledgment of the environmental and social impacts associated with sporting events. While there may have been a historical oversight, the current trend indicates a strong commitment to integrating sustainability into the sports industry. Major sporting events, such as the International Olympic Committee – IOC and FIFA World Cup, now have specific sustainability goals and initiatives, showcasing heightened awareness of the need for responsible practices. As the Farmers Insurance Open (Century Club of San Diego) takes place this week, Climate Executive Coaching would like to highlight Sustainable.Golf by GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf, an international non-profit entirely dedicated to accelerating sustainability in and through golf. Sustainable.Golf is a community of sustainable golf leaders uniting with collective actions to bring strong commitments, actions, and results. They collaborate with project teams to develop and renovate golf courses, integrating sustainable elements that make positive impacts worldwide. They also work to support and recognize golf courses and tournaments that make efforts to bring sustainability into greater focus. 🌱 According to Sustainable.Golf, here are 5 changes golf tournaments can make to drive change in the near future 💡 : 1️⃣ Become more self-sufficient in cleaner energy, with more efficient heating and cooling systems and greater electrification, using fewer petrol and diesel-powered equipment. 2️⃣ Phase out bulk materials heavy in embodied carbon, such as virgin sands, aggregates, and soils, and synthetic fertilizers, replacing them with second-generation, recycled versions and variations. 3️⃣ Power tournaments through combinations of onsite renewables and much wider electrification, incorporating green hydrogen and other scaling innovations. 4️⃣ Place greater emphasis on accessibility, particularly around rail and other public transportation, and scale up incentives and provisions for electric vehicles. 5️⃣ Require organizations, such as golf associations, to have climate transition strategies and net-zero roadmaps, encompassing not only their own operations but also policies and programs that support change across their memberships and events. Check out Sustainable.Golf at https://sustainable.golf/ for the latest news on sustainability in golf and join the conversation! 🤝 #ForSustainableGolf #sustainabilityleadership
