Last week, FEMA unveiled significant updates to the Individual Assistance program, making disaster relief faster and more accessible. Hurricane Beryl has strengthened back into a Category 3 storm and is projected to make landfall in Tulum, Mexico early Friday. With winds reaching 115 mph, the storm presents a significant threat to the region. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has issued a statement urging tourists to evacuate to higher ground or seek shelter. Authorities have prepared storm shelters, evacuated coastal communities, and taken measures to protect vulnerable assets such as sea turtle eggs. As Beryl approaches, it is expected to weaken over the Yucatan Peninsula but may regain hurricane strength upon entering the Gulf of Mexico. To aid in efforts to respond to Hurricane Beryl in southern Texas, the FCC has, for the first time ever, activated the Mandatory Disaster Response Initiative (MDRI). The MDRI requires all wireless providers to: - Enter into reasonable arrangements for roaming during disasters; - Establish arrangements for providing mutual aid during disasters; - Take reasonable measures to enhance municipal preparedness and restoration; - Take reasonable measures to increase consumer readiness and preparation; and - Take reasonable measures to improve public awareness and stakeholder communications on service and restoration status.

The beginning of June marks the start of hurricane season, and this year NOAA is forecasting an above-normal Atlantic season with 17 to 25 named storms.
