Our amazing People Officer, Jonna, creates the Foleon newsletter every month to update us on the latest company news. Here’s why we think it’s a powerful example: 𝟭. Solutions sometimes are simple. A simple answer to feeling overwhelmed, not being able to cope, to being stressed, to feeling stuck, feeling unfulfilled often isn’t found where you think they are. Or in other words: How many self-help books have you read? How many motivational Ted Talks have you watched? How many courses have you attended? How many hours of meditation and yoga have you done? You might be right in the place you want to be (nothing wrong with any of the above), but if there is still a big Void in your life, maybe it is due two the lack of two aspects: * Community * Connection’s with real people Our online community is a place where we meet for mutual support and find real answers and connections with the aim to bring what we learned in to our lives in our homes and communities. Wednesday, 17 July (The Communication and Public Speaking Hub) - Today’s subject will be addressing one of the most common fears: Public Speaking. "People who need help sometimes look a lot like people who don't need help.” – Glennon Doyle Melton It’s easy to get caught up in deadlines, projects, and meetings. But amid the hustle and bustle, one simple act can make a world of difference: checking in with people. As beloved Sesame Street character Elmo recently highlighted, the seemingly small act of reaching out can make a big difference in someone's day, especially during challenging times: https://lnkd.in/dTRHd9DQ Whether it's a quick message, a phone call, or a coffee catch-up, checking in shows you care, you're there to support, and most importantly, you're listening. It strengthens bonds, boosts morale, and fosters a sense of belonging in our personal and professional circles. My global study on the state of mental wellbeing in the communication profession indicated only around 50% of communication professionals are actively checking in on their colleagues, and around the same number of managers are actively checking in on their team members. Taking a moment to ask how someone is truly doing can have a profound impact on their mental wellbeing. Here are five tips for regularly checking in on friends, employees and colleagues: 1. Set aside dedicated times each week or month to reach out to your friends, employees or colleagues. It could be a quick mid-week message or a monthly coffee catch-up. Consistency is key to building and maintaining strong connections. 2. Mix up your communication methods to suit the preferences of those you're checking in on. Some might prefer a phone call, while others may appreciate a text message, email, or even a handwritten note. Adapt to what works best for each individual. 3. When reaching out, be sincere in your intentions. Ask specific questions about how they're doing, their recent projects, or any challenges they may be facing. Show genuine interest in their wellbeing and listen attentively to their responses. 4. If someone expresses difficulties or challenges during your check-in, offer your support and encouragement. Be empathetic, validate their feelings, and offer practical assistance if needed. Sometimes, just knowing that someone cares can make all the difference. 5. Don't let the conversation end after your initial check-in. Follow up regularly to see how they're progressing or if they need further assistance. Building a habit of consistent follow-ups strengthens relationships and demonstrates your ongoing support and commitment. Please remember to take care of yourself during these unsettling times. It's normal to feel overwhelmed or anxious given the current circumstances. Remember that your well-being should be a top priority, both physically and mentally. It's essential to prioritize your mental health. “Peace - It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.” We can sometimes feel alone in our busyness navigating a bustling schedule. Busy with work, be it back-to-back meetings, changes, restructuring, new team members, business development, conflicting priorities. Or (and!) busy with home, managing family responsibilities, healthcare, childcare, relative care, financial focuses. Busy with friends and hobbies. Not forgetting our own well-being. Add to that the continuous flow of global events, and it’s clear we’re living in times filled with constant activity, opportunities, and challenges. You are not alone. So when we are admist the ongoing noise and the sometimes drama, how do we maintain a sense of peace within ourselves? Finding tranquility in the midst of turmoil isn’t just about seeking silence outside (although having some pause time away can be very beneficial); it is about fostering calmness within. What steps can we take to develop and maintain our personal resilience, despite external pressures? This inner peace is what helps us approach our busy lives with a clearer mind and a steady heart, not just enabling us to be a little more prepared for what may come our way, but also allowing us a little more space to appreciate the joy around us too. Where do you need more support right now? Before you get really into your day today and into the busy of it all, I’d love to invite you to consider where you need most support right now at work, home or with your well-being? Sometimes it’s as simple as checking in with yourself and giving yourself a moments grace to really consider how you are. At work if you had more support in a certain area - what kind of impact would that have? At home if you had more support in a certain area, how much would that improve your wellbeing or life in general? If you had more support emotionally, or to create some space for yourself so you can just “be”, what would that mean to you and how would that improve things for you? It’s often in reflection that the biggest shifts come. We know all the answers, we just need a moments of awareness to let them come out. Gift yourself a moment today to sit with that “where do I need more support right now”. Then, what aligned action can you take to bring it into reality?

WHAT’S THE DEFINITION OF SUCCESS? 🤔 Today we had our first #CPforever Alumni Walk and Talk 🥾 💬 HOW I THOUGHT IT WOULD GO: A group of us would meet in the Peak District, we’d have a lovely stroll through the Derbyshire countryside and chat, catch up and chew the fat. HOW IT WENT: I packed up the car with toddler carrier and walking boots. When I arrived at the meeting point, the toddler was fast asleep and only one person had turned up for the walk. Failure…..? No, I don’t think so. The point of introducing walk and talks into our alumni activities is to have the opportunity to make meaningful connections in a relaxed and informal setting; and in a less structured format. Combining fresh air and excercise (good for physical wellbeing) with being out in nature and having great conversations (good for mental wellbeing) And today we had just that. There may only have been two of us (plus a sleeping toddler) but Steve Whittle (one of our CP Forever Alumns) and I had a great chat over a coffee, Steve updated me on his amazing Tough To Talk - Male suicide and mental health charity and also shared his recently launched book ‘Man Up’ a collection of personal stories and experiences from real people who have experienced mental health struggles. I chatted to Steve about the huge responsibility I feel raising a son in a world where males showing their emotions is seen as a weakness; and how committed I am to trying my hardest to nurture his ability to show vulnerability and talk through emotions. We discussed how we can work together to spread the message about creating work environments where male mental health isn’t taboo and we imagined a world where this is the norm. Once Steve and I had done putting the world to rights we parted company, the toddler woke and my little man and I spent some quality time together, we had a little walk, we chatted to the ponies, we baa’ed at the sheep and we enjoyed some tasty lunch in the Hartington Farm Shop & Cafe So let’s just do a quick check back: - Fresh air in the lungs ✅ - Excercise ✅ - Enjoyed nature ✅ - Great conversation ✅ - Meaningful connection ✅ I’d say a pretty successful Saturday. We’ll keep on arranging more #CPForever Walk and Talks and whether one person or twenty people show up, I’ll be there; ready for a chin wag (and with a small human in tow).
