Starting 2024 with our first marketing intern hire for the year! Damian Tan made an impression when he applied for a marketing internship ottertunity and responded to my punny email, inviting him for an interview. My takeaway from this? I'm surprised at how much of an impression a candidate can make on me just by his response to an email inviting him for an interview. There's so much I'm learning about hiring, managing a business, and about myself every day. 💡

Day-3 of Internship in Creative strategy at HACA Works done: Reworked on my research as many terms were confusing for me and I didn't know the definition. Mistakes done: Got mixed up with terms related to brand study especially their messaging, upholding values and positioning. Insights: Learned to identify the USPs of brands and how they are using it for marketing. New Learnings: Gained the ability to identify a brand's core values, messaging, positioning, strengths, and weaknesses.

Insights from Industry Leaders from an OMG23 intern Today, I had the chance to hear from industry professionals Alex Siddall Andriena Coleman and Chanelle Flavell. They provided invaluable insights into the world of marketing and branding during the intern Summer Series Presentation hosted by Hearts & Science, part of the OMG23 Summer intern program. Hearts & Science, with 8 offices across 7 states, is a company powered by purpose. This purpose-driven approach is evident in their commitment to creating emotions that ignite growth for brands, which they highlighted as being closely linked to achieving iconic growth. One key takeaway from their presentation was the concept of making iconic moves to increase Brand Heat. Brand Heat was a new term for me. Initially, I related it to Brand Awareness, but Alex Siddall clarified that Brand Heat pertains more to customers' desire for and consideration of a brand. This deeper understanding of Brand Heat, as opposed to mere awareness, emphasizes the importance of cultivating a strong, emotionally resonant brand presence that drives consumer passion and loyalty. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of this presentation and am looking forward to learning more from other amazing professionals throughout this series. Why is our internship program so successful? Years (and years) ago I experienced, as an intern, what an incredible internship program can and does look like thanks to Yahoo, Dan Rosensweig and Hobart and William Smith Career Services. Their program was so impactful, it influenced the way we've built out a robust (for our size) and successful internship program. Not only have we hired incredible interns upon graduation in the last two years, we consistently hear great feedback, “When I speak to my friends [about their internships], even the ones at well-known, prestigious companies.. I’m learning 10x more and actually enjoying work everyday.” So what makes it so successful? 1. Long before a job description, the foundation for a successful internship is laid by hiring managers who are 100% bought in and excited for an intern. Their investment in an intern is extensive, there’s no denying that, so first and foremost it’s up to them to want the challenge and reward (i.e. developing a student into a professional). Get manager buy-in! 2. We treat our interns like full time employees (seriously), meaning their responsibilities have real impact and weight. We're welcoming them into a culture of trust and high performance, so from Day 1 we're emphasizing their agency, allow space for failure and supporting them with a lot of coaching. 3. We *genuinely* want them to be incredibly successful regardless of an Aircapture job offer. Want to go into aerospace instead? Maybe we don't have a job opening for them. We ensure they have everything they need to land their ideal job upon graduation. This requires project alignment from managers, extra training from the People team (LinkedIn, time management and presenting, etc.) and we extend our assistance even after they've flown our coop. I recently conducted an analysis using MyTelescope’s advanced search volume analysis tool, focusing on the keyword "Irvine CarMax." Over the past few years, this keyword has shown a significant 72% correlation with CarMax's share price, particularly with a one-month lag. This correlation indicates that consumer interest in specific CarMax locations can be a strong predictor of the company’s overall market performance. The one-month lag suggests that spikes in search activity are followed by corresponding changes in stock price, offering valuable lead time for investors. Understanding regional consumer behavior through search trends provides critical insights into market dynamics, helping investors make more informed decisions. MyTelescope continues to be an invaluable resource for uncovering these insights and driving strategic investment strategies. I have a few days left in my internship, and it has been both fun and super interesting to learn how strong brands can indicate stock price performance. I'll probably keep working on this even after my internship ends, as it is such an important project. What if one day, you figured out your former plan was realized successfully by someone else, but you didn't even know that brand before? There is no steal here :D It's just a coincidence that my comm plan for an intern position's test in the beginning of 2023 for the VN market came true by Celcius - a beverage brand in the US market since 2014 (you can easily follow their strategy at the end of the following slides). It certainly has some differences between products, as my received brief was just a test. However, you can easily see that the strategic approaches have lots of things in common. Sometimes, I still wonder how could I find this incredible strategy.
