In seven days, African Constituency Bureau for the Global Fund with its partners World Health Organization Afro, The Global Fund, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, African Union, Africa CDC, Wellcome Trust and The Global Financing Facility (GFF) will kick off the "Technical consultation on advancing African leadership and unified voice in Global Health Initiatives (GHIs)". This meeting will strategize Africa's unified engagement with GHIs, focusing on resilient health systems and Universal Health Coverage. Participants will include representatives from GHIs, Ministries of Health, civil society, and other key stakeholders. Together, we aim to enhance collaboration and address Africa's health challenges effectively. Together, we can enhance collaboration and synergy among stakeholders, fostering a coordinated approach to addressing Africa's health challenges and priorities. 

25 participants from the Western Balkans gathered for the third inter-country/area meeting in Trieste on 28-30 November. Building on the consolidated partnership with the Central European Initiative - CEI, the event aimed at strengthening #PHC policies and practices within the framework of the WHO Roadmap for Health and Well-being in the Western Balkans (2021-2025). The focus of the 2023 meeting was on PHC models, family medicine and workforce, with an exchange of knowledge about the current state of PHC and health workforce in WBs countries/area and with a specific deep dive on workforce shortage, attrition, and retention challenges. The meeting was coordinated jointly by WHO European Center for Primary Health Care and the Office for Health Workforce and Service Delivery. Last week I attended the Conference on Public Health in Africa (@CPHIA2023) 2023 in Zambia showcased Africa's shift towards self-reliance post-COVID vaccine denial. The event, led by Africa CDC, highlighted 158 health emergencies, predominantly infectious (90%) and zoonotic (75%), revealing low preparedness and compliance. With a worrying Global Health Security Index (GHS Index) average of 29.1/100, only Kenya and South Africa exhibited over 50% biosafety. Climate change-related extreme weather further fueled diseases like cholera amid African states' low health spending of $50/person annually, failing the Abuja Declaration's 15% budget commitment. Positive collaborations, such as Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) EAP and the Mastercard Foundation's phase 2 partnership, offered hope for strengthening health capacity. Chemonics International hosted an outstanding event on Operationalizing Systems Thinking for Health: Expert partner convening workshop.
