Learning from the AME Roundup in Vancouver: Living in Vancouver and attending the AME Roundup, I am experiencing firsthand a remarkable model of collaboration between the government and private sector in mining. This partnership is essential for fostering responsible and sustainable mining practices. Observing these practices has led me to reflect on Colombia's potential, where mining is an economic cornerstone. In the past, we had similar congresses, but they have been disappearing. It's crucial that we revive these events, focusing more on technical and social aspects rather than political debates, to promote and highlight the importance of ethical and sustainable mining practices.#AMERoundup #SustainableMining #Colombia #MiningInnovation

Mexico is the latest country to support a moratorium on deep-sea mining. That's 24 countries so far saying NO to deep-sea mining either by supporting a moratorium or a ban on this reckless, out of touch, greed driven, speculative industry. Growing resistance, not least from YOU, has helped countries like Mexico think twice about opening up the deep-sea to mining. After all, if allowed to go ahead, Mexico sits on the edge of ground zero of deep-sea mining. In other good news North Volt, a major battery developer, joins industry leaders in supporting a moratorium on deep-sea mining. Tech, battery and mobility companies have the foresight to know that we don't need metals from the deep-sea for the energy transition. The power is ours! We are the voices for the planet and our own future. We must build on this resistance and make sure deep-sea mining is not given the green light. Together we can stop a disaster from starting! We've received payment of $3.3 million from Saskatchewan Research Council for sale of stockpiled rare earth material, as announced last month. The sale was facilitated by Natural Resources Canada relating to our stockpiled rare earth material derived from a previous mining campaign on Nechalacho’s North T deposit. We remain focused on developing the Tardiff deposit at Nechalacho and will deliver a Scoping Study for Tardiff in CY2024. Managing Director Lisa Riley said: “Our sale of stockpiled material to SRC is now complete, allowing Vital to derive value from our earlier work at Nechalacho. This allows us to focus on development of Tardiff as a long-life, large-scale rare earths project. A Scoping Study is the next logical step in our pathway and we are on track to deliver the study by the end of 2024. “We expect our newsflow to increase over the coming months as we work towards and achieve milestones towards its completion.” Read the full ASX Announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gRZPRcYe #VML #VitalMetals #REE #rareearths #Canada #ASX #ASXNews

Artisanal and small-scale gold miners in three Colombian communities are part of an initiative focused on eliminating the use of mercury in gold processing. Building on previous grants, GIA awarded a $93,000 grant to enable Mercury Free Mining and the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) to provide training, perform assessments and collect feedback from miners over a six-month period evaluating the innovative Goldrop technology – an alternative to using mercury for gold recovery. GIA initially funded the pilot program in 2021 with a grant to conduct field tests of the Goldrop process and platform. Learn more about this important initiative: https://bit.ly/3IR0oNj

GÉCAMINES FACES PROPOSED OVERHAUL TO ADDRESS DEEP-ROOTED CHALLENGES Gécamines, one of the largest state-owned mining companies in the DRC, is poised for a major transformation following proposals from the human rights organization Justicia Asbl. During the Council of Ministers meeting on August 23, 2024, chaired by the Head of State, discussions centered on revitalizing Gécamines. However, Justicia Asbl argues that the current measures are insufficient to address the company’s deep-seated structural issues. In a statement released on Monday, Justicia Asbl advocated for a “total overhaul” of Gécamines, emphasizing that merely resuming mining activities will not resolve the company’s…READ MORE HERE https://lnkd.in/dGpUPY6k

⭕️The Shuar People in the Ecuadorian Amazon send this powerful message ahead of Canadian mining company Solaris Resources Inc., ahead of its annual general meeting held in Vancouver TODAY. During this meeting, the company's directors will present financial results and shareholders will vote on the matters discussed, including the future of the ancestral territory of the Shuar Arutam People - PSHA. ☠️The Warintza mining project, in Morona Santiago, in the south of the Ecuadorian Amazon, is a serious threat to the life and integrity of the Shuar Arutam People and the biodiversity of their territory. ✊🏾Indigenous youth that live within the project's impact area, say no to mining and no to the Warintza project. Their message is clear: territory is life and nature must be protected for future generations. 🐚It’s time to amplify the voices in resistance of the Shuar Arutam People.

🐚 It’s time to amplify the voices in resistance of the Shuar Arutam People. The struggle of the Shuar People resonates deeply with the Schompen tribal community in the Nicobar Islands, India, who are also fighting to protect their land from the threat of a transshipment hub project. These communities face similar challenges as they strive to preserve their cultural heritage and the natural environment against industrial encroachments. Let's stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities worldwide as they defend their land and rights. #IndigenousRights #SaveTheAmazon #ShuarResistance #NoToMining #ProtectNature #IndigenousYouth #LandIsLife #Solidarity #Sustainability #EnvironmentalJustice #IndigenousVoices #Ecuador #India #ShompenResistance #GlobalResistance
