💡 AIA California congratulates the newly appointed Chair of the influential Housing and Community Development Committee: Assemblymember Chris Ward (D-San Diego). What's a key to his priorities?.... Read On. * 🌆 If you're interested in Assemblymember Ward's viewpoint on his new role, it's encapsulated in this quote, “As a representative of San Diego where the cost of living has risen dramatically to be the highest in the nation, I hear regularly from constituents the need to be stronger to increase the affordable housing supply throughout California and make the dream of owning a home a reality for working Californians once again. From needs to unlock barriers to housing production, assist local governments in meeting goals, lower the costs associated with new housing, and support renters struggling to keep up, I look forward to the impact our committee can make through our hard work ahead.” * ➡️ The Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee has jurisdiction over building standards, common interest developments, eminent domain, farm worker housing, homeless programs, housing discrimination, housing finance (including redevelopment), housing, natural disaster assistance and preparedness, land use planning, mobile homes/manufactured housing, redevelopment: housing, and rent control. * 🤝 AIA California looks forward to working with Assemblymember Ward on solutions to our state’s multidimensional housing crisis.

Next up supporting ForwardDallas, Dallas Housing Coalition Steering Committee member, the Hon. Diane Ragsdale of South Dallas Fair Park Innercity Community Development Corporation (ICDC) stated, "Although the Community Residential placetype is largely single-family, we don’t want that to exclude the possibility that in some places in the future, other types of housing may make sense in order to provide more housing options for more people. We don’t want a plan that is exclusionary. We don’t want a plan that is classist or racist, nor do we want a plan that allows the construction of grossly incompatible housing … which has led to displacement.” Check out this article for more: https://bit.ly/3Yihht1

The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) announced the second round of awards from California’s innovative Multifamily Finance Super NOFA (MFSN), designed to spur much-needed housing development by reducing administrative barriers. Of 4,018 homes funded, 3,947 will be restricted to those earning 80% of Area Median Income or below. This includes 723 permanent supportive homes, 805 homes with 3-4 bedrooms for families, and 696 homes for seniors. Funds were set aside for emerging and community-based developers; projects in high-resource areas received scoring incentives. The Multifamily Super NOFA allows developers to apply to 4 separate funding programs through 1 application, saving builders time and money. Delivering more homes to working families, veterans, farmworkers, and people transitioning out of homelessness. https://lnkd.in/gXnEb-Bz

National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO)’s 2024 Legislative and Regulatory Agenda is the cornerstone of our annual Washington Conference and Hill Day, when hundreds of NAHRO members and partners gather to learn, network and advocate for affordable housing and community development. Here are our four top priorities: ✔ Adequate and responsible funding. Systemic underfunding directly contributes to our country’s growing affordable housing crisis. We need resources to preserve the affordable homes we do have and to build new ones. ✔Holistic approaches. Investing in housing, supportive services and educational opportunities will improve lives. ✔Building and preserving affordable housing units through streamlined programs. Improving the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, investing in the HOME Investments Partnership program and providing flexibilities will help build and keep more affordable homes. ✔Creative, local solutions. NAHRO members understand the challenges and opportunities in their communities better than anyone. Empower housing agencies by supporting local approaches and increasing local decision-making flexibility. For more details (and our funding recommendations!), check out the full document at: www.nahro.org/24legagenda
