Eviden's collaboration with PWN Waterleidingbedrijf Noord-Holland has yielded fascinating insights into real-time water quality monitoring using open-source satellite imagery. 🌐 Through the combined efforts of Geo ICT team at Eviden and the PWN team, we have successfully finished a pilot project aimed at improving water insights for PWN. Here's a glimpse into our journey: 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: We started with a vision centered on achieving real-time tracking of algae and turbidity levels in Dutch lakes using satellite data. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐈𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: Timely information on algae and turbidity levels is crucial for optimizing water intake and reducing the purification effort and costs. By harnessing satellite data, we aimed to enhance predictability and streamline water intake processes. 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬: Our pilot project zeroed in on generating key metrics from satellite data, to detect and forecast algae and turbidity in water. 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭: The benefits are clear: improved predictability enables more selective water intake. By combining satellite time series data with forecasts, we can now pinpoint optimal times for selective water intake, maximizing efficiency. Thanks Koen Zuurbier and Eric de Vos for entrusting us with this mission. Your unwavering support and insightful feedback has been instrumental in driving this project forward. A special thanks to Robert Parinussa (PhD) for making this pilot happen. This pilot has not only provided actionable insights for PWN but also showcased the transformative potential of open-source satellite imagery in water quality monitoring.
