An innovative new device invented by University of Birmingham researcher Jason Stafford can help us to unlock the remarkable potential of 2D materials such as graphene. These nanomaterials will play a pivotal role in the development of novel technologies of the future, but the process to synthesise them can be prohibitively complicated. The platform developed by Dr Stafford is programmable and automated, reducing the time and expertise needed to perform these processes. This breakthrough method could open up R&D opportunities within a host of industries, from aerospace to healthcare. By accelerating the discovery and optimisation of advanced materials, we're paving the way for a host of transformative applications that will shape the world of tomorrow. Manufacturing In Space: An Inside Look At A Seemingly Crazy Idea The pace of change in manufacturing is officially out of this world. Don’t get me wrong, things have been advancing quickly for quite some time. For example, when MAGNET, the manufacturing consultancy I run in Northeast Ohio, polled manufacturers last year, we found an 80% jump in Industry 4.0 adoption since 2019. Technology is definitely pushing the industry forward in many new ways, and fast. But I can’t say I saw this one coming: some people are dreaming of moving our industry to space. In fact, research and testing has already begun. It’s a moon shot, to be sure. (Pun very much intended!) America’s key manufacturing advantage is not scale, not numbers, but innovation, so I’m inclined to say: why not space factories? But at the same time, it sounds too crazy to be true. So, let’s take a look at whether this is, in fact, a real opportunity for manufacturing. Continue reading>> https://lnkd.in/eq_9qV3w #space #manufacturing #factories
