This incredible milestone highlights our ongoing efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and fight climate change. ♻️ 90% of all items diverted from landfill - promoting a circular economy. By redirecting these items, we prevent unnecessary waste and give new life to valuable resources. 👷♂️ 29 individuals employed - transforming lives through your support. Each employment opportunity created is a step towards building stronger, more resilient communities. 🌍 490 communities supported - the ripple effect of positive change. Our reach extends far and wide, making a meaningful impact on countless lives. 🌱 5 Resource Recovery Hubs across Kaikohe, Manukau, Waitara, Wellington, and Christchurch. These hubs serve as beacons of innovation and sustainability, fostering community engagement and environmental stewardship. 💪 89 volunteers per month - driving our transformative projects. Our volunteers are the backbone of our initiatives, dedicating their time and skills to make a real difference. 🌐 9 countries supported - spreading our ethos across borders. Our global outreach ensures that the principles of sustainability and community support resonate far beyond New Zealand. 💰 $18,982,930 saved or raised for community needs - making a global impact. Rural Prosperity Fund - Overview Eligible small rural businesses, social enterprises and charities with a trading arm, with up to 50 employees can apply for capital grant funding support up to £100,000. The Rural fund consists of three themes: Business Development - Support for eligible businesses with investment in capital equipment (including new technologies) and improvements to buildings/premises to facilitate expansion, improve productivity, bring new products to market, create and/or safeguard jobs. Food Processing - As above, but restricted to food processing businesses/organisations, including farming businesses, where there is no duplication with other sources of public sector support, for example Defra. As Chair of the BNZ Foundation, I am thrilled to announce that following 18 months of comprehensive planning and groundwork, the Foundation is now actively supporting community initiatives, committing $590,000 in grants to our initial three community partners: 🌊 Revive Our Gulf: This project, receiving $450,000, is led by the Mussel Reef Restoration Trust in collaboration with iwi and research partners. It focuses on restoring the kūtai (green-lipped mussel) reefs in the Hauraki Gulf, aiming to enhance marine biodiversity and water quality. This restoration is crucial for re-establishing natural habitats, vital for marine life, and has the potential to significantly benefit local fisheries and coastal ecosystems. 🚗 Waka Aronui: Waka Aronui is a social car leasing programme designed to provide low-income families and whānau with access to affordable, safe, and low-emission vehicles. Aimed at reducing the reliance on high-interest, second-tier vehicle finance, which too often sees low-income families saddled with unaffordable, poorly maintained and uninsured vehicles, the programme is already making a difference through a pilot currently under way in South Auckland. (The Ākina Foundation, Manukau Urban Māori Authority) With a $110,000 grant from the BNZ Foundation, a comprehensive feasibility study will explore options to scale the programme to more regions across New Zealand as well as the potential to incorporate new solutions such as vehicle sharing and e-bikes. 💡 A new initiative to enhance financial resilience: With a $30,000 grant from the BNZ Foundation and support from other philanthropic sources, Centre for Sustainable Finance: Toitū Tahua is leading work to establish a network of corporates and community groups to support New Zealanders facing economic hardship. The goal is to ensure New Zealanders experiencing hardship can continue to access essential goods and services, by connecting with corporate and community providers through a single access point. Each of these projects demonstrates our targeted approach to funding, ensuring that every dollar counts and contributes to lasting positive change in our country. A major announcement from one of our projects - The Ocean Community Empowerment and Nature (OCEAN) Grants Programme is now open for proposals and is looking for projects focussing on marine conservation and poverty reduction. OCEAN is a competitive grants scheme under the wider Blue Planet Fund (BPF), an initiative worth £500 million (over €581 million) with the goal of helping developing countries protect the ocean while tackling the intersecting issue of poverty. 💶 Community grants, which are up to £250,000 (about €293,000), will fund projects led by small to medium, local and in-country organisations with an annual income of less than £1 million or about €1,720,000. The closing date for community grant proposals is on 18 March 2024, 22:59 GMT (23:59 BST). 🐟 On the other hand, partnership grants, which can range between £250,000 and £3 million (about €293,000 and €3,500,000) will be awarded to medium to large organisations who partner with locally led organisations and have the capacity to deliver projects at a larger scale. 🌍 Celebrating World Environment Day at Acasa Suites! 🌍At Acasa Suites, we want to leave as little carbon footprints as possible. This World Environment Day, we thought we would share a few of our initiatives: ✅️ Environment Fee (CHF 3.50 per overnight stay, replacing city tax) — This fee is part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, and is used to support a number of internal and external environmental projects as well as financial donations to certified aids projects in Switzerland and worldwide. ✅️ Swisstainable Operations: We operate our hotel with a conscious effort to be sustainable and regularly review our environmental initiatives to include practices, policies, and property improvements.
