We are grateful to Gulf Coast Mom for promoting our initiative and highlighting how we're taking measures to ensure exceptional care for mothers and babies! We understand the importance of addressing maternal healthcare challenges and improving early recognition of potential complications for safer outcomes after childbirth. That's why we've launched the 'I Gave Birth' Initiative, aimed at educating everyone—mothers, families, friends, providers, and the community—about the unique challenges women face in the first year post-delivery. Through this initiative, we provide new mothers with a simple yet impactful tool: the 'I Gave Birth' bracelet. This visual cue not only identifies recent childbirth but also prompts healthcare professionals to consider this factor in medical evaluations, expediting accurate diagnoses and treatments and fostering a safer maternal healthcare environment. To learn more about our initiative and the postpartum journey, please follow the link below. Together, let's ensure every mother receives the care and support she deserves. https://bit.ly/3vHhSJ5

For many team members at March of Dimes, our mission is personal. March of Dimes Interim Chief Medical Officer, Amanda Williams, MD, MPH, FACOG shares her experience as survivor of preeclampsia and NICU parent. She raises awareness about preeclampsia and the potential benefits of low dose aspirin. She advocates for maternal health education, underscoring the importance of recognizing and addressing symptoms early on in pregnancy—potentially saving lives in the process. Preeclampsia can cause serious problems for you and your baby, including preterm birth. When prescribed, low dose aspirin (also called baby aspirin) can help keep you and your baby safe from the risks of preeclampsia. Together, we can make significant strides to reduce negative maternal and infant outcomes. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/dR-kMSpe #lowdosebigbenefits #itstartswithmom

The first time I navigated the U.S. healthcare system in earnest was when I got pregnant. I did my research, chose a hospital system, and selected a midwife with great care. But when I was 28 weeks along--just barely into the third trimester--my picture-perfect pregnancy took an abrupt turn and I went into labor. It was the scariest day of my life. The more I learned, the more I realized that there is so much work that needs to be done in maternal health in the U.S. Did you know that more women die from pregnancy-related complications today than their mothers did 20-30 years ago? Or that 80% of those deaths are considered preventable by the CDC, or that Black women have a 3x higher rate of maternal mortality regardless of income or education levels? I'm proud to join the March of Dimes Boston board and support healthier pregnancies here in my local community. The March of Dimes is one of the nation's oldest nonprofits and is a leader in the fight for the health of all moms and babies. In Massachusetts, top policy priorities for the MOD have included increasing access to doulas, midwives, maternal mental health, and at-home care. Every baby in the U.S. to deserves the chance to be born healthy, and healthy moms lead to strong babies. If this is a cause that resonates with you too, please join us in this mission! If you'd like to learn more I highly recommend the 2024 March of Dimes Maternity Report which just came out last week: https://lnkd.in/e4J-WZ4a Chloe Schwartz, MPH Julia Vose Robin Paige Panella

💙 Three weeks ago, we launched Bliss' #FamiliesKeptApart campaign. As the campaign lead, I'm excited to share some insight. 💷 Did you know that the cost of having a baby in neonatal care averages £405 per week? (Bliss survey 2022). This financial and logistical burden, coupled with the emotional toll of leaving your newborn in the hospital overnight, underscores the urgent need for routinely available accommodation for parents. 👶 Our new research uncovered a stark reality: for every 10 babies needing overnight care in England, only one parent room is available. Just imagine choosing which newborn receives vital hands-on care from their parent while the others are left alone during the night. It's a heartbreaking scenario that demands immediate attention. 🤱 One such story that resonates deeply is Tasha's, a member of our campaign co-creation group. Her experience of leaving the hospital empty-handed every day highlights the critical need for better support for parents of sick babies. Read Tasha's story here: https://lnkd.in/er8r2p43. 🎉 Thank you to everyone who has supported and contributed to our campaign so far. While we celebrate this milestone, our work is far from over. We must continue to amplify parent voices and advocate for policy changes that align with best practices, such as family integrated care. ❗Join us in making a difference. Share our campaign to raise awareness about the lack of overnight accommodation. No parent should endure the trauma of being separated from their baby. 👉 Read more about Families Kept Apart here: https://lnkd.in/eM8J2vGW.
