March 3rd is Dyscalculia Awareness day. Dyscalculia is under the umbrella of learning disabilities. People with dyscalculia find it difficult to understand numbers leading to a wide range of struggles with mathematics. Sadly, according to the British Dyslexia Association, studies looking at the cause of dyscalculia are about 30 years behind the research for dyslexia. Today is an important day about bringing awareness to this lesser known learning disability. It exists and dyscalculic people/people with dyscalculia matter! #dyscalculia #learningdisability #neurodiversity

Dyscalculia impacts approx 6% of the population. See the attached facts sheet for some simple accommodations that can support people with this non-apparent disability ability be more successful in the workplace. A person with dyscalculia may have difficulty: Retrieving and remembering maths facts such as multiplication facts or times tables • Understanding maths language • Remembering how to do calculations. • Understanding maths concepts • Reading and writing numbers, place value and decimals. • Difficulty with telling the time and understanding money. • Working memory and being able to process information before it is lost. • Slow processing speed
