Unlocking the True Potential of Your Film: An Insider's Guide with Issa Rae Navigating the world of filmmaking can be daunting, but with the right strategies, your project can flourish. First off, your film’s summary should be sharp and engaging. It needs to succinctly convey the unique elements of your story while hooking your audience. Remember, this is your selling point. Here’s my breakdown of the essentials: 1. Identify your core message: What’s at the heart of your story? Make sure your summary clearly reflects this central theme. 2. Keep it concise: You’ve got limited space and attention span to work with. Distill your story down to its most compelling elements. 3. Highlight unique angles: What sets your film apart? Be sure your summary showcases these novelty aspects. 4. Target your audience: Know who you’re speaking to. Tailor your summary to resonate with that demographic, using language and reference points they will connect with. Now, applying this insight takes action. Here's what you can do next: - Draft multiple versions: l Write different summaries, each emphasizing various elements of your film. Test these out on small focus groups or peers for feedback. - Research successful films in your genre: Analyze how they craft their summaries and learn from them. - Refine constantly: Based on feedback, continue refining your summary. Less is often more; keep tweaking until every word earns its place. Emerging filmmakers, your narrative deserves to be heard and seen. Leverage these tips to articulate your film’s essence compellingly. Ready to take your film’s presentation to the next level? Dive deep, implement these steps, and watch as your project gains the traction it deserves. Let's create magic!

What Did I Just Stream... For some of us, watching a film is a serious experience. We don’t just watch—we immerse ourselves. And that’s why every film we create matters. A good film doesn’t happen by accident; it needs a good story, strong performances, solid technical work, and above all, a thoughtful way of telling the story. Storytelling requires depth—authentic dialogues, well-researched plots, scenes that carry weight. It’s not enough to have clear sound and good visuals; a beautiful frame means nothing without a story that sticks. Sadly, storytelling is still a weakness, a vulnerable point for many of our local productions. And to be blunt—yes, I'm offended. Offended that we’re still producing films that audiences forget as soon as they step out of the cinema. Offended that we’re falling into this habit of “self-pampering”—producers have script, actors have a script, D.O.Ps have a script, set designers have a script, even a set runner and boom operator have a script, each rushing to make a film and missing the point entirely. What a shame! If the end result is weak storytelling, what’s the point? Films are supposed to last, to resonate. So, let's give writers a real chance. Talented writers are out there—they’re filling library shelves, writing with hope, waiting for a chance to bring meaningful stories to life. It’s time we lean on their craft and let storytelling take center stage, for the sake of the industry and the audiences we’re here to serve. ________________ Follow: Elias L. How I transformed from a fan to a filmmaker. In high school I used to be just a fan of cinema… …obsessively following the work of different Directors, Writers, Actors. Counting the days till their newest work would come out. And then I started studying it, obsessively in film school… reading anything I could get my hands on, watching everything my cinematic heros made, analyzing the craft and the impact. My film school was small and they got an avid non linear editing system but the town is also small so no one knew how to use it. Myself and other students took it upon ourselves to figure it out and within a fee years I was actually hired to teach editing on it to new students. So meanwhile I started making films and winning awards and I really became a filmmaker. I was hired to make documentaries. Hired to write scripts for independent producers and hired to Direct and Produce hundreds of videos for national and international brands…to help them sell and increase revenue. Today I continue to do all of the above at Koier Creative—>www.robkoier.com I see video as a very effective tool to solve problems. Be it my own creative work or commercial work for hire…what is the emotional core of the story, what are the themes that resonate with the particular audience and how best can the language of cinema be used to tell this story. If this resonates then comment THEME below and let’s work together to find the best way to use the language of cinema to accomplish your goals. What’s something you once desired to learn to do and now have become? #videoproduction #cinema #digitalmarketing #filmfan #thelanguageofcinema

Here's my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind, by Coauthor.studio: 2024: The year Hollywood dreams met Flemish reality, and independent filmmaking proved it's not just about making movies, but changing how we tell stories. 😎🎬 Between launching our fourth Hollywood Bootcamp and wrapping "Sound of the Somme," this year wasn't just about creating content - it was about challenging the entire media ecosystem. Er ontbreekt een visie dat externe content verwelkomt en samenwerkingen met onafhankelijke makers stimuleert! (Translation: There's a missing vision that welcomes external content and stimulates collaborations with independent creators) Three moments that defined our journey: 1. Hollywood Bootcamp 2025: Transforming film education one Los Angeles adventure at a time "Catching a plane to L.A. & returning 16 days later with your own short movie? During our 4th (!) edition of Hollywood Bootcamp 25, this crazy dream becomes the real deal." https://lnkd.in/ei5pbNxq 2. Sound of the Somme: Proving international storytelling transcends borders "We officially wrapped up shooting the international short film SOUND OF THE SOMME" https://lnkd.in/e4nmBzKq 3. Flemish Media Critique: Because someone needs to say it "Er ontbreekt een visie dat externe content verwelkomt en samenwerkingen met onafhankelijke makers stimuleert" https://lnkd.in/eNZqnsKq Highlights? We're not just counting trophies: • Another Hollywood Bootcamp that turned student dreams into reality • Completed "Sound of the Somme" - a testament to independent international collaboration • Advanced post-production on anthology features that challenge traditional storytelling • Got nominated for an Ultimas award (still waiting on that celebration drink!) 2025 is already looking like a transmedia storytelling revolution. We're developing three international fiction features, a VR series that'll make "HannaH & co" look like a warm-up, and continuing to push boundaries in how we create and consume content. The future of filmmaking isn't just about cameras and scripts - it's about breaking down barriers between creators, audiences, and storytelling formats. Who's ready to join this wild ride? Slide into my DMs if you want to collaborate, challenge the status quo, or just chat about the future of media. #IndieFilm #Filmmaking #MediaEducation #TransmediaStorytelling #LinkedInRewind #Coauthor #2024wrapped -- Get your 2024 LinkedIn Rewind!
