NATRUE, together with 12 other associations from various sectors, calls upon #EU #policymakers to reject the proposed ban of #greenclaims 🌿 for products containing legally sound amounts of #chemical substances contributing to longer product lifetime, effectiveness, resource, and #energysystem 🔎🧴. 👉 For #natural and #organic #cosmetics, primarily composed of a significant proportion of natural complex substances, the effect of amendment 60 of the Green Claims Directive would be to ban #environmentalclaims on products that are not only #safe ✅, but support #sustainableinnovation 🔎 in-line with the twin objectives of the #EU #CircularEconomy ♻️ and #Bioeconomy. Belgian Presidency of the Council of European Union - such a ban would run contrary to the #greenclaims Directive's fundamental objectives of claims substantiation and informed decision-making. For #natural and #organic #cosmetics, which fundamentally comprise of mixtures of natural complex substances, such a ban would impact consumer products that are not only safe but also support sustainable innovation in-line with the twin objectives of the #eu #circulareconomy and #bioeconomy. NATRUE - The International Natural and Organic Cosmetics Association together with 12 other associations from various sectors calls upon EU policymakers to reject the proposed ban of #greenclaims on products according to compromise amendment 60 of the Green Claims Directive. Specifically for #natural and #organic #cosmetics, which fundamentally consists of a majority of natural complex substances, the knock-on effect of the proposed amendment would be to ban #environmental #claims on products that are not only safe, but support sustainable innovation in-line with the twin objectives of the #eu #circulareconomy and #bioeconomy. Given the on-going discussions at the committee stage in the #europeanparliament, it remains both timely and critical to ensure that consumers not only have access to reliable information on green claims, but equally that products closely aligned with sustainable innovation are not impeded by such a restrictive approach. Our #Call to #Action as part of the ongoing #GreenClaims Directive revision: ✅ Establish a robust & credible framework to enable consumers make informed choice 🚫 Do not ban claims for products containing hazardous substances 📣 Together with 1️⃣3️⃣ industry sectors, The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) supports the European approach to tackle #greenwashing, BUT considers that a proposed ban of claims for products containing hazardous substances would run contrary to the objectives of this revision. 🌸 As an example, most of the #natural #ingredients used in #perfumery contain substances that have intrinsic hazardous properties. 🌱 These substances are naturally present in (edible) plants & are widely present in food. ⚠ A proposed ban of claims for products containing hazardous substances would result in a ban of these substances. #GreenClaims #fragrance #CircularEconomy #BioEconomy Read more⬇️ AISE International Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance Products AIM - European Brands Association APPLiA AMFEP Cosmetics Europe - The Personal Care Association EDANA, the voice of nonwovens EPTA Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry LightingEurope NATRUE - The International Natural and Organic Cosmetics Association TIE: Toy Industries of Europe ZVEI e. Very good article and straight to the point. Showing the importance of product preservation and that natural versions of the effective natural preservatives are very similar in structure to the industrial compounds (example provided Parabens). Being natural or not, all these agents are chemicals and to assure efficacy challenge testing should be performed to warrant shelf-life. Let talk about science - stop green-washing
