Dear Australia, it’s time to stand up to the standover merchants parading as our leaders - local, state, federal, government, union, arts, sport and corporate. On one hand, they spew vitriol and name calling, then plead for civility by saying “all sides need to be civil”, then lecture us and patronise us while pleading for civility, and while their attack dogs continue to name call, denigrate and spew vitriol. Enough is enough. It’s time to call out the lies, the obfuscation, the deflection, and the total lack of accountability or humility. Its time to once again be the Australia that calls a spade a spade, and have our bullsh*t detectors on high. It’s time to stop being afraid of what they might do if we stand up. But most importantly, it’s time to get out of our echo chambers and expose ourselves to the opinions that conflict with our Pollyanna views of the world. It’s time we learned how to talk about politics and religion, with civility and without breaking friendships. It’s time to learn how to disagree as we need to, only after finding the ground where we can agree first. It’s time to stop being mugged or seduced by slick, spin marketing campaigns. It’s time to be curious about what is going on and how it impacts us. Ultimately, it is time to not only know what you believe and think, but most importantly, why you think or believe it. We can do this. Go well

Dec. 2 marked the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery. While slavery has been abolished in every country around the world, it still exists in every nation. This holiday season, consider buying buying fair-trade. Buying ethically sourced goods may come with a heftier price tag, but people on a limited budget can still make a difference. Learn how in AEHT's December Reflection: bit.ly/3RV8gTo. #FactFriday #EndHumanTrafficking #EndChildLabor #FairTrade

Fun Facts: Arkansas USA Date of statehood: 15/06/1836 Population: 3.01 million Most famous sports team: Razorbacks (American Football) Capital City: Little Rock Largest city: Little Rock Officially nicknamed the “Natural State” (formerly the Bear State), Arkansas was the 25th state to join the USA. For a long time, there was a debate about whether to pronounce the state’s name in the French fashion, making the last “s” silent, or to pronounce it in a comparable way to Kansas. This was eventually settled in 1881 as the former and has since been pronounced as “Ar-ken-saw.” More than half of the entire state is forested; across all this forestland, there are approximately 11.8 billion trees. Interestingly though, not even half of the forested areas of Arkansas are part of national forests – just 13%. Private landowners own the vast majority, a massive 58%! African American poet, actress, and singer, Maya Angelou, was raised in Arkansas. She was the second poet in the country to be selected to present an inaugural poem reading "On the Pulse of Morning" at President Clinton's inauguration in 1993, another Arkansas resident. Author John Grisham, whose blockbusting books include "A Time to Kill," "The Rainmaker," "The Firm," and "The Pelican Brief” was also born in Arkansas. In Arkansas it is illegal to honk a car horn after 9pm in the vicinity of establishments that sell sandwiches or cold drinks. There is also a law on the books that says Arkansas teachers can’t receive a raise if they bob their hair. New reports highlight the need for further efforts to address modern slavery in UK trade and investment to fulfil the UK’s repeated commitment to act as a ‘force for good’. The study, conducted by the Rights Lab, University of Nottingham in partnership with Anti-Slavery International, highlighted that efforts to address modern slavery practices in UK trade and investment have evolved, but continue to fall behind international best practice. A message on behalf of our Director and Founder Ica H.: The continued growth of far-right and racist riots across the UK is becoming increasingly alarming. This surge in violence and intolerance not only threatens public safety but also undermines the generations of labour and sacrifice that Black and People of Colour communities have contributed to UK society. Unfortunately, this is something that has been slowly brewing for a while due to the growth in anti-immigration, anti-Islamic, and racist rhetoric from politicians, social commentators, and the press. For members of our community, attending peaceful protests or simply going about their daily lives, it is crucial to remain vigilant and prioritise personal safety. Always try to avoid going out alone and ensure that someone you trust is aware of your whereabouts at all times. Staying informed about current events is essential in these challenging times. Follow reliable news sources and community updates where you live to remain aware of potential risks and areas to avoid in the UK. Witnessing the impact of these racist riots on our community is heartbreaking, but it is more important than ever that we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters across the UK. Stay safe 🖤

Let PriceBeam help guide you
We wouldn’t let our neighbours dictate decisions inside our house. Then why do we go to work and let the competition dicate our pricing ? Always baffles me !
