This is a vital ruling for all survivors of childhood sexual abuse, not just those in Maryland. As other states contemplate the constitutionality of look-back windows, this ruling should pave the way to eliminate those concerns. These laws give long overdue justice to survivors and should be passed in every state. https://lnkd.in/e7FHZJHg Our firm represents countless survivors who have sought and continue to seek justice through these reform laws. In the last two decades, it’s become increasingly clear that dioceses across the country and around the world purposefully shuffled priests reported to be sexual abusers of children to different parishes once there was a complaint. The Illinois Attorney General’s Office has released a 2023 report on clergy abuse finding that victims amounted to a minimum of 1997 children across the state. If you or a loved one were a victim of clergy abuse, contact Moll Law Group at 312.462.1700 or complete our form at molllawgroup.com. What steps can be taken to improve the training and awareness of mandatory reporters within religious and other community organizations? Legal Precedent: San Ysidro Pastor Faces Charges for Failing to Report Child Sexual Abuse Eric Manuel Merino, pastor of Victory Outreach in San Ysidro, has been charged for failing to report suspected sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl by church choir leader Rafael Valentin Magana. This case is notable as the first of its kind in San Diego County. Despite Merino's attorney asserting that Merino fulfilled all mandatory reporting obligations, prosecutors argue otherwise. The incident, which took place in 2021, only came to light in March 2023 when the victim reported the assault. This case underscores the critical role of mandatory reporting in preventing further abuse. Key Takeaways: - Understanding Mandatory Reporting: This case highlights the vital role of mandatory reporters in safeguarding children. Under California law, clergy members must report suspected abuse, barring certain exceptions like penitential communication. - Legal Precedents and Implications: The case sets a legal precedent in San Diego County, stressing the importance of compliance with mandatory reporting laws by clergy and other professionals. - Challenges in Reporting Abuse: The ethical and legal dilemmas clergy face in distinguishing between protected penitential communications and their duty to report suspected abuse. #churchcrime #churchsafety https://lnkd.in/gJUPPbXp

Mark Dreyfus do you have the will to protect women and children victim survivors of institutional betrayal in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia? We call on you to recognise the harms perpetrated and to make a national apology to those of us harmed by corruption in the family law industry. We call for a new law that ensures that state Child Protection evidence and Protection Orders are adhered to by family court judges and not overruled. We call on consequences for judicial misconduct. Refusal by judges to allow evidence of child abuse and domestic violence perpetration to result in immediate dismissal by both Houses of Parliament. We call on all children court ordered into the sole custody or partial unsupervised custody of the alleged perpetrator as identified by police, magistrates, child protection, DFSV services to be immediately returned to the safe parent’s protection. Removing children from safe parents (usually the mother) breaches the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. We call on you to stand down the Chief Justice William Alstergren who has overseen and covered up human rights atrocities in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia The separation of powers is not a ticket to abuse one’s powers. It is clear the system is broken. Instead of wasting billions on bandaids we must build better ways forward based on equality and respect for innate human dignity. Our current justice system protects perpetrators and harms women and children. If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got! We’ve got a whole lot of abuse of power and not a lot of truth telling or safety. We call on all everyone to join with us calling for protection of victim survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence. The Australian people deserve and expect better. Please comment: Stop overruling Child Protection findings and Protection Orders in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and hold judges who ignore and exclude evidence of domestic, family and sexual violence accountable by removing them from the bench through both Houses of Parliament.

Not inappropriate ❌ Not a relationship❌ Not a sexual preference ❌ Not a sexual behavior ❌ ✅Sexual abuse. Call this what it is, sexual abuse. Predators in religious institutions, as I discuss directly in my book, exploit the faithful to protect themselves. Often calling on tenants of forgiveness, forcing families to avoid contacting the civil authorities. This case, which should see the inside of a courtroom, is a clear example of GAS and illustrates that the grooming process happens anywhere we have the necessary ingredients. Every religious institution must open their eyes to the potential for abuses and actively prevent predation through their policies and enforcement. If you currently suspect abuse within your religious community, you must contact civil authorities. Then, report abuses or suspicious behavior to religious leaders. Not the other way around. #duckduckgroom #preparednotparanoid #therapisttips

It is at government level that the change must begin. So as to show that as a nation we will not authorise the abuse of women and children through systems abuse.

South Carolina is one of the few states in the nation without a hate crimes bill, and it’s time for that to change. Passing a hate crimes bill is essential for sending a clear message that violence and discrimination based on race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability have no place in our state. A hate crimes law would give law enforcement the tools they need to hold perpetrators accountable and protect those who are most vulnerable. It’s about justice, safety, and ensuring that everyone in South Carolina can live without fear of being targeted simply for who they are. Let’s come together to pass a hate crimes bill and make our state a place where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. #PassTheBill #StandAgainstHate #SCForJustice
