🎉🥂 Glad to share! The cornerstone has been laid! 🥂🎉 🌟 On June 18th, the cornerstone for Elcogen’s new factory was laid in the Loovälja Industrial Park near Tallinn. The 14,000 square meter factory will significantly increase our current production capacity of solid oxide cells and stacks to meet the growing global demand for emission-free energy and green hydrogen-producing fuel cells. 🌟 📈 The factory is being constructed in collaboration with Maru Ehitus AS. Elcogen's production capacity will increase from 10 megawatts to 360 megawatts following completion of the new facility. 👉 The cornerstone for the building was Elcogen’s elcoStack®, a fuel stack consisting of over a hundred fuel cells which produces either emission-free #electricity or #hydrogen through an #electrochemical reaction. 🟢 Enn Õunpuu, founder and CEO of Elcogen, stated at the cornerstone ceremony that this is a crucial milestone on the path to innovative energy solutions: “The new factory will be equipped with the latest available technology, reducing its environmental impact and minimising air pollution. Production will be significantly more automated, faster, and of higher quality than before. The new factory is a priority development for us, as our current production capacity is at its maximum, and with our strategic investors Baker Hughes and HD Hyundai, we have global customers who are in need of our technology.” 🟢 Margo Dengo, Chairman of the Board of Maru Ehitus, added: “All big things start small. This start of the year is electric for Arkema! ⚡️ We acquire a stake in the start-up Tiamat Energy, and accelerates in next generation batteries. Tiamat, spun-off from the CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique, is a pioneer in sodium-ion battery technology. ▶ This investment will enable us to accelerate the development of technical solutions adapted to these batteries, which do not use lithium. "Our portfolio of advanced materials enables us to provide solutions for all our customers' battery technologies. Ceres Power and DENSO give detail on green hydrogen equipment development partnership 🟢👀 West Sussex-based Ceres Power and Denso Corporation have expanded on their recently signed partnership agreement. The long-term licence agreement for the manufacture of Ceres’ proprietary solid oxide electrolyser cells for hydrogen applications was signed by the two firms in July. Ceres say the agreement with the Japanese firm gives it scale, expertise and resource to manufacture advanced equipment for the growing green hydrogen sectors. The licence includes significant revenues for Ceres over multiple years, with a similar profile to previous Ceres OEM licences, including licence fees, engineering services and hardware. It also provides for royalty payments to Ceres on future commercial production and sale to end customers by Denso. Denso is a Fortune 500 company, headquartered in Kariya, Japan, employing over 160,000 people in 35 countries and regions worldwide. 📢 Acquisition News 📢 We are stepping up the development of sodium-ion battery technology with Tiamat Energy. 🔋   Arkema has acquired a stake in the start-up Tiamat, a pioneer in sodium-ion battery technology and a spin-off company created by the CNRS (Centre national de la recherche scientifique).   Since 2017, Tiamat has been designing, developing and industrializing sodium-ion batteries, a new lithium-free technology enabling in particular to avoid the constraints associated with the supply of this metal.   The practical application of sodium-ion batteries in EVs has already begun and further dissemination is expected globally. The most relevant application would relate to stationary use, such as the storage of renewable energy produced by wind and photovoltaic farms. ✔️🎉We’re excited to announce that together with Sinosteel we’ve successfully completed the performance test for the #ENERGIRON DRI Plant at the Baosteel site in China! The new hydrogen-based 1,000,000t/year direct reduction plant is the largest in China and uses our #innovative and #sustainable ENERGIRON technology, jointly developed with Danieli. As the steel industry moves towards greener practices, ENERGIRON sets the standard for a highly flexible technology designed specifically to maximize the reduction of CO2 emissions. 📝During the performance test, a milestone production of 21,620t of DRI was achieved, after 168 hours of continuous full-load production, with a metallization rate of more than 94% and using a 70% hydrogen-based reducing gas. The plant will also be able to capture CO2 that can be sold commercially, further reducing the plant’s overall emissions as well as providing an added revenue stream. 💬Our Stefano Maggiolino, President and CEO at Tenova HYL, commented: “We are really satisfied with this project which confirms the great collaboration among all parties that participated in this achievement. A major step in decarbonizing industry. BASF is starting the demonstration plant for its electrically-heated steam cracker. This process creates critical feedstocks of ethylene and propylene for the chemical industry, but is an emissions monster due the vast amounts of heat normally supplied by burning natural gas. In the USA, the DOE estimates crackers generate about 18% of energy-relate emissions for the chemical industry. Converting this operation to clean electricity is a major opportunity to reduce emissions and starting this demonstration is a critical step to bring this into reality.
