Special day...
Today was a special day at WH Davis as we said goodbye and happy retirement to Lyn Mellors our Chief Design engineer after an incredible 66 years.
Lyn started with WH Davis in August 1957, and has been with the company ever since.
Lyn is well known and respected within the rail freight industry for his depth of knowledge and experience, and over the years has been involved in multiple wagon designs, including our recent FNA flask wagons, re-purposed Hopper wagons and our new range of JNA box wagons to name a few.
Lyn was joined by his wife, daughter and colleagues past and present for the presentation.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Lyn for is dedication and commitment to our business, and we wish him and his wife a happy and peaceful retirement.

Henry Ford famously stated, "Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently." Here's a fun fact about me: I'm an avid roller coaster enthusiast. The exhilaration of speed, towering heights, and the challenge of pushing human ingenuity to its limits for the sheer joy of it has always captivated me. Consider the Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point Amusement Park, which, when it debuted in 2003, held the title of the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster. It was groundbreaking, introducing an innovative hydraulic launch system. However, as time passed, it became notorious for its maintenance challenges and was even deemed a hazard to guests, ultimately costing the park more than it was worth. Fast forward to 2024, and it has been transformed into the world’s tallest and fastest triple-launch coaster.
You might be wondering why I'm sharing this. The point is that in our rapidly evolving digital era, continuous innovation is imperative. We need to adapt and change in response to shifts in economics, scientific discoveries, and new exploratory frontiers, among other factors. These changes impact the speed and manner in which we must innovate or reinvent ourselves and our methods.
So, when your current workflows begin to hinder your profitability, affect your output, or pose risks to you or your clients, it's crucial to reflect and ask, "How can we improve?" Don't wait for your clients to demand change; proactively seek opportunities to add value and stay ahead of the curve. Aim to be the outlier.

Back in action with part 3 of our #flighttoquality series. On the border of Hazel Park and Warren, we have a case study for the industrial sector.
Once upon a time, this was the former Hazel Park Raceway and Stacey's Golf Center. Hazel Park Raceway was a fun venue, and Stacy's Golf Center in Warren is where I took my first golf swings.... Matthew & Carter could explain a few things. Over time, the land simply became too valuable, and both have been redeveloped into Class A Industrial parks by Ashley Capital & Hillwood. Today, companies like Amazon & BorgWarner lease large blocks of space, all inked up to long-term leases.
The reason these tenants weren't here before... in effect, they couldn't be. Hazel Park and Warren are both older, inner ring suburbs. Most of the product was too old for modern users: tight columns, small truck courts, small footprints, low ceiling heights, etc. There really wasn't a building with the qualities modern tenants were looking for until these buildings came out of the ground. Lo and behold, once the quality was here, the tenants were happy to move forward.
Is this a flight to quality? To a degree, I would say yes. Without the Class A buildings, these tenants simply wouldn't be here. Maybe the tenants didn't trade up the way office tenants do, but the concept remains the same to me.
