💡 The Global Circularity Protocol (GCP) by the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development offers a standardized framework to help companies shift to a circular economy. 🚀 It supports target-setting, measuring, and reporting on circularity, aiming to reduce material consumption, cut emissions, and promote environmental health. The protocol’s expected outcomes include a 4-5% reduction in global material use and significant greenhouse gas and air pollution reductions by 2050. However, businesses encounter challenges in measuring and disclosing these efforts due to a lack of standardized metrics and frameworks, which complicates target setting, benchmarking, and compliance amidst a rapidly evolving and inconsistent regulatory landscape. The latest report from the University of Cambridge highlights what I’ve been focusing on in my work: circular solutions are the future of business, and relying on ESG reporting alone won’t drive the necessary change. Companies that design and create products for reuse, repair and reduction of waste are not only cutting costs but positioning themselves to thrive in tomorrow’s markets. How to generate a positive impact on your business?💡🌎 The study (i) mapped what high impact research on #circularity indicators and #circulareconomy actions is reporting; (ii) pointed out challenges and opportunities in the application of circularity #indicators; and (iii) discussed implications for #businesses wanting to generate #positiveimpacts. Furthermore, the work shows non-academic level studies in terms of circularity indicators, such as online tools, websites; and other taxonomy proposals of index-based methodologies.
