Through the generous donations of AAMP members, last year we raised $20,000 to fund 10 scholarships through the Hope Through Learning Awards (HTLA) program. Today AAMP Vice President and head of the Charitable Committee, Elisabeth Soose, attended the Homeless Children's Education Fund Luncheon where HCEF presented scholarships to 24 deserving young people who persevered through homelessness during school attendance years and graduated. These amazing students are attending post-secondary education or career training programs and were awarded $2,500 scholarships (and a laptop!) today.

BACKGROUND: Malik's Charitable Foundation was established in 2018 by Regina Walker. Regina's passion for community service and her son, Malik, inspired her to address the educational needs of underprivileged students. MCF provides school supplies, book bags and books, benefiting over 100 local students. This support improves attendance, self-esteem, and enthusiasm for learning. OUR MISSION: To empower underprivileged students by providing them with the necessary tools and resources to excel in their education and future goals. HOW WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED OUR MISSION: In the 2022-2023 academic school year, we were able to attend an event at a local school during their Open House, where we were able to distribute book bags to deserving students. This event was a testament to MCF's commitment to fostering educational equity and nurturing the academic potential of every child. Furthermore, MCF's outstanding work through this event was recognized when the foundation was featured in the January 13, 2023 edition of the South Suburban News Newspaper. WHY OUR MISSION MATTERS: We believe that every child within our community should have equal opportunity and easy access to quality education. PLEASE JOIN US: Join us in this incredible journey to empower, uplift, and inspire. Your contribution is not just an investment in education; it's an investment in the boundless potential of the next generation. Learn more about our programs, volunteer opportunities, and how you can support our mission by visiting https://lnkd.in/etUskX_k. The Smithson Public School in Kitchener has had the same playground structure for over 25 years! It is a cornerstone of our community and unfortunately, it is facing imminent closure. This closure will not only deprive the children at Smithson School of a safe and engaging play space but also affect the families in our Rosemount community who rely on the school yard and play structure as one of the few accessible playgrounds. Currently, the playground is being repaired by parents/community members who take it upon themselves to “sneak in” and do small repairs to keep the structure functioning and safe for our children. However, as stated above the current play structure is approaching a state of disrepair, and its closure is inevitable. Our goal is to raise money to replace the playground structure this year. We have been doing our best this past year and have raised a fraction of the needed cost. As you may know these structures are not cheap. We need your help! Every donation, big or small, will make significant impact for us to reach our goal and help the dream of a new playground come true for our Smithson Students! Your consideration means a lot to us. Donation Instructions: You can contribute through the Waterloo Education Foundation Inc (WEFI). https://lnkd.in/gtV9A9np following this step: 1. Please ensure you select Smithson PS 0111 from the drop down under “Apply your donation to a fund set up by this charity”. 2. Please put a comment that your donation is for the playground. Please know that 100% of your donation goes towards the playground. Donations exceeding $5,000 will be acknowledged with a prominent engraving on a commemorative plaque.
